Bondage of Lightness

Joseph Ong, June 2000

When is lightness felt?
a fallen leaf frolicking in the wind,
the currents swirling beneath it,
rocking to and forth.

Flesh, bone, with ligaments,
all but a dense mirage,
what of weight and substance,
lost in dread spaciousness.

Loneliness abound,
my heart cries out,
since time immemorial,
in mother's womb.

Rising and falling,
the carrying waves,
perceptions, feelings, thoughts,
dissolving into the moment once more.

Memories flicker,
ablaze the horizon,
fading out of reach,
into the vastness beyond.

The sky above,
never so close,
I kiss her bosom,
with immeasurable love.

I feel your breath,
brushing aside my battered soul,
all the pains it once harbours,
may they be released now !

Hold me tight,
Don't let me go,
Take my breath gently,
back into your fold.

Unfettered I shall soar,
where freedom is found,
my spirit rid of bondage,
in pristine unyielding love.
