Punna Numodana

Sharing of Merits

Punnenanena cannena,

Sivam patthe tadantare,

Dhiram passe sune dhiram,

Dhirena saha samvase.

By my past and present merits, May I attain Nibbana.

During Samsara (round of birth and death),

May I meet the wise, hear the words of the wise,

and associate with the wise.

Dhiro assam sayamcapi,

Viro kusala karane,

Ucce addheca akhanda,

Panca silo va jatiya

May I be wise and noble,

May I practise wholesome acts with much effort.

May I be born in a rich family of good lineage.

May I observe the five precepts without breaking them.

Dadato me nakhiyetha,

datva nanu tappeyyaham,

Dadam cittam pasareyyam,

Adinnam na balam hare.

Although I have given generously,

May I never regret later.

May my property never be exhausted

May this generous thought give me joy

May I voluntarily abstain from taking

what is not given.

Etta-vataca amhehi,

Sambhatam punna sampadam

Sabbe devanumodantu,

Sabba sampatti siddhiya

In the innumerable merits

which we have accumulated

may all devas rejoice

for their happiness.

Ettavata ca amhehi,

Sambatam punna sampadam,

Sabbe nara numodantu,

Sabba-sampatti siddhiya.

In the innumerable merits

which we have accumulated

may all human beings rejoice

for their happiness.

Ettavata ca amhehi

Sambatam punna sampadam,

Sabbe satta numodantu,

Sabba-sampatti siddhiya.

In the innumerable merits

which we have accumulated

may all sentient beings share

for their happiness.

Katam amhehi yam punnam,

Dukkaram ajja sadhukam.

Punnene-tena Nibbanam,

Sigham pappoma te mayam.

Now we have accumulated merits from 

Deeds which are difficult to do.

By these meritorious deeds,

May we soon attain Nibbana, Happiness.

Tam ca punnam mayam dema,

Bhavesu tisu paninam,

Te sabbe tam pamoditva,

Sukham labhantu sabbada.

May we share our merits with

Beings in the three levels of existence

May they rejoice in our merits

And attain Happiness, now and forever.
