Rhus tox.: Aching of the left arm with disease of the heart.

Nat. mur.: Irregular intermission of the beating of the heart and pulse, especially when lying on the left side.

Spong.: Violent palpitation of the heart with pain and gasping respiration; awakens in the night with suffocation; dry cough; great alarm and anxiety.

Acon.: Uncomplicated cardiac disease, especially with numbness of the left arm; tingling in fingers; fainting.

Cactus.: Sensation of constriction in the heart as if an iron hand prevented its normal movement.

Kali carb.: Heart beat intermits; action irregular, tumultuous, weak; stitches through to scapula.

Opium.: Pulse full and slow with snoring.

Spig.: Violent (visible and audible) palpitation of the heart, < when bending chest forward; stitches in heart.

Cactus.: Palpitation of the heart; worse when walking, and when lying on the left side; at night.

[Lith. carb.]: Rheumatic soreness in cardiac region, < stooping, with pains in limbs; finger joints tender and painful.

Bell.: Globular pulse; feels as though a shot passed under the finger (Gregg).

Bell.: Violent beating of the heart reverberating through the head.

Nat. mur.: Cold feeling in heart when exerting the mind or mental overexertion.

Oxal. acid.: Heart intermits when thinking of it.

Zinc.: Sudden shocks and jerks in cardiac region.

Cann. sat.: Sensation as of drops falling from the heart.

Kalmia.: Affections of heart from rheumatism; anxiety and oppressed breathing; palpitation or slow, irregular, feeble pulse.

Phos. ac.: Palpitation in young persons growing too fast, after onanism.

Bell.: Pulse much increased in force and frequency, with throbbing of carotid and temporal arteries.

Spig.: Violent beating of the heart, especially at night; visible and audible, with anguish.

[Lith. carb.]: Valvular deficiencies, worse from mental agitation, which caused fluttering and trembling of the heart.

Digital.: Extremely slow pulse with many complaints.

Kali iod.: Weak heart, with horrible smothering feeling.

Laur.: Sense as if heart would turn over, gasps for breath; > on lying down.

Lil. tig.: Feeling as if the heart contained too much blood, which might me > by throwing it up.

Lobel.: Sense as if the heart would stand still; a deep pain about the heart.

Mag. mur.: Palpitation of the heart, < when quiet or sitting; > when moving about.

Tabac.: Palpitation, due to tobacco, tightness of chest, > by taking inspiration.

Gels.: Feeling as though the heart would stop beating if she did not move about (reverse Digitalis ).

Nux mosch.: Palpitation, with fainting followed by sleep.

Rhus tox.: Sensation of weakness and trembling in the heart.

Verat. vir.: Heart beats very rapidly, loud, strong, with great general arterial excitement.

Lil. tig.: Heart feels as if squeezed in a vise, or alternately grasped and relaxed.

Glon.: Violent action of the heart, distinct pulsation over the whole body, especially in back of neck and head.

Amyl nit.: Tumultuous action of the heart, with dyspnoea and the characteristic rush or flush of blood to head and face.

Gels.: With heart trouble, nervous chill; yet skin is warm, wants to be held that she may not shake so.

Graph. , Kali bich.: Cold sensation around the heart.

Kali brom.: Weak intermittent heart, must be busy with her hands (fidgety hands).

Digital.: When going to sleep the breath fades away and seems to be gone, the pulse slows or stops, then awakens with a gasp to catch it.

Lauroc.: Heart trouble with continuous cough as soon as he lies down.

Ferr.: Palpitation with fear, > by walking slowly about.

China.: Nervous palpitation after great loss of fluids.

Arnica.: Hypertrophy of heart induced by overexertion, as from running, rowing, etc., young men.

Lach.: Heart feels too large for the cavity; can bear no pressure on throat or chest.

Lauroc.: Heart trouble; sitting up causes gasping for breath; > by lying down.

Naja.: Organic disease, with sympathetic irritative cough.

Arg. nit.: When sitting quietly, thinks her heart stops beating.

[Aspar.]: Cardiac affections of the aged with dropsy.

Phos. ac.: Palpitation in children and young people who grow too fast; after onanism; or long grieving.

Apis.: With heart troubles great feeling of suffocation, as if he could never breathe again.

Ferr.: Throbbing in all the blood vessels, "nuns murmer;" anaemic subjects.

[Grind.]: Weak heart; on falling asleep breath stops, and he awakens suffocated; is afraid to go to sleep on this account.

Lauroc.: Heart action irregular, pulse slow.

Lauroc.: Cyanosis neonatorum, face blue, gasping.

Phos.: Sensitiveness of spinous process of dorsal vertebrae to pressure.

Nux mosch.: Pain in sacrum when riding in a carriage.

Cicuta.: Back bent forward like an arch.

Zinc. met.: Nape of neck feels weary and tired, from writing or any exertion.

Sepia.: Much weakness in small of back and sacro-iliac region.

Agaric.: Aching along the spine and limbs; column sensitive to touch.

[Lachn.]: Torticollis to right side.

Cocc.: Paralytic pain in lower back with weakness of hips, knees and legs.

Bell.: Pain in back < on coughing or jarring.

Rhus tox.: Lumbago from sleeping on damp sheets, or ground; on getting wet while perspiring; pains, strain, etc., < while at rest; on beginning to move; > when gets in motion and by pressure.

Actea rac.: Rheumatic pain in muscles of back and neck, a feeling of stiffness and retraction.

Helonias.: Burning and tired feeling in lumbar and sacral regions.

Plat.: Numbness in sacrum and coccyx, while sitting.

Silicea.: Stiffness in nape of neck, with headache.

Agaric.: Painfulness along spinal cord when stooping; every turning motion of the body causes pain.

Alumina.: Pain in back as if a hot iron were burst through the lower vertebrae.

Hyperic.: Consequence of spinal concussions.

Puls.: Pain in small of back, as after long stooping or from a sprain, on motion after sitting.

Agaric.: Sensation of ants creeping along spine.

Cimic.: Stiff neck from cold air, or from even moving hands.

Sulph.: Violent, bruised pain in small of the back and in coccyx, especially when stooping, or rising from seat.

Rhod.: Bruised pain in the small of the back, worse at rest and in rainy weather.

Verat. alb.: Neck so weak child can scarcely keep it erect (whooping cough).

Actea rac.: Server aching pain in the lumbar and sacral regions, down the thighs and through the hips, with heavy pressing down.

Rhus tox.: Stiffness and aching, bruised pains in small of back; when sitting still or when lying; better from motion or when lying upon something hard.

Calc. phos.: From slight draft of air, rheumatic stiffness of neck.

Paris quad.: Nape of neck weary as if great weight were lying upon it.

Amm. mur.: Icy coldness in back, especially between shoulders.

Calc. phos.: Soreness in sacro-iliac symphysis, as if broken or separated.

Bell.: Pain in small of back as if it would break. Also lumbar and sacral region.

Cann. Ind.: Pain across shoulders and spine, must stoop; cannot walk erect.

Sabina.: Drawing pains and dragging in small of back, extending into the pubic region.

Aesc. hip.: Constant backache affecting the sacrum and hips; very much aggravated by walking and stooping (Haemorrhoids; Leucorrhoea).

Canth.: Pain in loins, kidneys and abdomen, with such pain on urination that he could not pass a single drop without wanting to moan or scream.

Lycop.: Severe backache relieved by passing urine.

Sec. cor.: Tingling in the back which is numb, extending to the fingers and toes.

Chel.: Constant pain under lower, inner angle of right scapula.

Lycop.: Red, sandy sediment in the urine, after backache.

Coccul.: Weakness of cervical muscles; unable to support head.

Berberis.: Bruised pain, with stiffness and lameness in small of back; rises from seat with difficulty.

Nat. mur.: Pain in the back as if broken, relieved by lying on something.

Sepia.: Pain in back and small of back; particularly with stiffness; improved by walking.

Lyc.: Burning as from hot coals between the scapulae, < in summer.

Rhus tox.: Pains in back compelling to move constantly in bed.

Nux mos.: Pains in back while riding in carriage; also sacrum.

Nux vom.: Labor-like pains in back with urging to stool.

Berberis.: Backache in region of kidneys; worse while sitting or lying, and in the morning in bed.

Sepia.: Aching and dull pain in lumbar and sacral regions, extending to thighs and legs.

Zinc.: Pain in back worse when sitting; cannot keep feet still.

[Cobalt.]: Aching pains in small of back, or in spine, worse while sitting, better on rising, walking or lying down.

Kali carb.: Backache, sweating, weakness, after abortion, metorrhagia, a week before menstruation; when eating, while walking feels as if must give up and lie down.

Lobel.: Extreme sensitiveness of sacrum; can't bear least touch; sits leaned forward to avoid contact of chair or cushion.

Rhus tox.: Lameness in back as if strained or after straining.

Calc. carb.: Easily over-strained from over-lifting, neck becomes stiff and rigid. Especially from working in water like ditching.

Calc. fluor.: Lumbago from strains, pains < after rest > moving a little (after Rhus fails).

Phos.: Burning heat running up the back and between shoulders.

Kali carb.: Backache extending into gluteal muscles and thighs, or down legs.

Sepia.: Weakness and tired pain in small of back when walking.

Aesc. hip.: Constipation; large stool voided with difficulty and followed for hours with severe pain in back, lumbar sacral region.

Kali carb.: Pain in back at 3 a. m., driving out of bed.

Sulph.: Pain in back < when standing.

Silic.: Pain in cervical region extending up to vertex.

Berb.: Backache extending to pelvis and posterior portion of thighs.

Nux vom.: Backache < on turning the body. Must sit up to turn over in bed.

Extremities.

Sulph.: Heat in the soles of the feet, or cold feet with burning soles; wishes to find a cool place for them, or puts them out of bed.

Ipec.: One hand cold, the other hot.

Verat. alb.: Difficult walking, first the right then the left hip feels paralyzed (or first left then right).

Sulph.: Cramps in the calves and soles, particular at night, also looseness of bowels.

Ant. crud.: Crushed finger-nails grow in splits; and like warts, and with horny spots.

Silicea.: Feel sweat, with rawness between the toes, or a bad odor; also complaints after checking it.

Acon.: Numbness in left arm; can scarcely move the hand;

Rhus tox.: Swollen around the ankles after sitting too long, particularly in travelling.

Calc. carb.: Feet constantly cold and damp, as though she had on damp stockings.

Verat. alb.: During wet weather pains in the limbs, and getting worse in the warmth of the bed; better walking up and down.

Ant. crud.: Corns and callosities in the soles of the feet; very sensitive; can't walk.

Cham.: Puts feet out of bed; soles burn.

Dulc.: Exostors on upper part of right tibia, with bluish red spots; suppurating lumps.

China.: Pains in limbs worse from slightest touch, and then increasing gradually.

Kali brom.: Fidgety hands, in constant motion.

Agar.: Twitching of gluteal muscles.

Amm. carb.: Panaritium, fingers inflamed, deep seated periosteal pain.

Ant. tart.: Violent pains in sacro-lumbar region; the slightest effort to move causes retching and cold sweat.

Ars. alb.: Restlessness of limbs with excessive weakness and exhaustion, obliges him to lie down.

Petrol.: Tips of fingers rough, cracked, fissured, with sticking cutting pains.

Lach.: Much pain of an aching kind in shin-bones only.

Nat. mur.: Hang-nails; skin around the nails dry and cracked.

Ant. crud.: Great sensitiveness of soles when walking.

Secale.: Limbs become pale, cold and shrivelled, or cold and lead-colored, loosing all sensibility.

Zinc.: Constant trembling of limbs with cold extremities.

Ruta.: Wrists feel as if sprained, stiff, worse in cold, wet weather.

Secale.: Numbness, insensibility, and coldness of limbs, especially tips of fingers and toes.

Zinc.: Incessant and painful fidgety feelings in the feet or lower limbs, must move them constantly.

Ars. alb.: Old ulcers of legs, with great burning and stinging, and bluish color.

Ledum.: Rheumatism begins below and travels upward.

Rhus tox.: Powerlessness of lower limbs; cannot draw them up.

Apis.: Oedema of hands, legs, feet; pale, waxy.

Cocc.: Much paralytic pain in the small of the back, rendering walking quite difficult and sometimes impossible; numbing feet and hands.

Ignat.: Convulsive jerkings of arms and legs, or single jerks of limbs on falling asleep.

Merc. sol.: Trembling of all the limbs, especially of hands and feet.

Puls.: Drawing, tearing pains in limbs; shifting rapidly from place to place; worse at night from warmth; better from uncovering.

Apis.: Panaritium or felon, with burning, stinging, and throbbing; very sensitive to touch.

Cicuta.: Opisthotonos with spasmodic distortion of the limbs.

Rhod.: Drawing and tearing in limbs, especially the periosteum, and forearms, and legs; worse in wet weather or before a storm, and at rest.

Mez.: Pains in the periosteum of the long bones, especially the tibia; worse at night and in bed; least touch intolerable; worse in wet weather.

Coloc.: Crampy pain in hip-joint, as though the parts were screwed in a vise; lies on the painful side with knee bent up.

Actea rac.: Rheumatism of the limbs affecting the muscles of the belly.

Agar.: Itching, burning and redness of hands, fingers, and toes, as if they had been frozen.

Bry.: Joints red, swelling, stiff, with stitching pains from slightest motion.

Conium.: Weakness of lower limbs; staggering; < by turning the head, or looking around clockwise.

Eupat. perf.: Intense soreness and aching in limbs as if bruised or beaten; wrists pain as if broken or dislocated.

Kalmia.: Rheumatic pains in limbs from hips to feet.

Rhus tox.: Lameness, stiffness, and paralyzed sensation in joints, from sprains, over-lifting, or over-stretching.

Lach.: Red, bluish, painful swelling on limbs; very sensitive; impending gangrene.

Ferr.: Pain in shoulder-joint, in deltoid muscle or upper arm; better walking slowly about.

Gels.: Weakness and trembling of all the limbs when trying to move them; muscles do not obey the will.

Cup. met.: Spasms or convulsions beginning in fingers and spreading from thence.

Petrol.: Deep, bloody rhagades on the hands; thick crusts, worse during winter.

Ferr.: Nightly tearing and stinging from hip-joint to thigh, gradually improved by slowly walking about.

Rhus tox.: Rheumatic tension, drawing, tearing in limbs during rest.

Gels.: Deep-seated chill, aching in the muscles of the limbs and in the joints.

Caulophyl.: Severe pains in joints of wrist and fingers; shutting the hands produces severe pains; swelling.

Merc.: Drawing and tearing in all the limbs; worse at night in warm bed, with profuse sweat, which gives no relief.

Ledum.: Rheumatism begins in limbs and ascends.

Rhus tox.: Lameness, stiffness and pain on first moving after rest or on getting up in the morning; relieved by constant motion.

Petrol.: Salt rheum on hands; red, raw, burning, or moist, or covered with thick crusts.

Merc. sol.: Salt rheum on hands, worse from swelling or in warmth of bed, which renders the itching and burning intolerable.

Rhus tox.: Aching pains in legs; must change position every moment.

Graph.: Skin of hands hard and cracked in places; the finger nails become thick. ( Thuja. )

Phos.: Arms and hands become numb, finger tips especially feel numb and insensible.

Verat. alb.: Icy coldness of hands and feet; cramp in the calves of legs.

Sang.: Rheumatic pains in the right arm and shoulder; worse at night in bed; cannot raise arm; motion (turning in bed) makes it much worse.

Ham.: Varicose veins with ulcers, with stinging or pinching.

Petrol.: Salt rheum on lower legs from knee to ankles; purplish oozing or covered with scales or scabs which are easily detached; itching and burning like fire.

China.: Sensation as if garters were too tight, and leg would become stiff and go to sleep.

Phytolacca.: Pains (rheumatic) in arms, especially about the attachment of the deltoid muscles.

Plumb.: Wrist-drop.

Ham.: Rheumatism with great soreness of the muscles.

Gnaph.: Intense pain along the sciatic nerve, following its larger ramifications; sometimes numbness takes the place of the pains.

Phytol.: Sciatic pains run from hip downward and mostly on outward side of thighs.

Coloc.: Crampy pain in hip, as though the part were screwed in a vise.

Lycop.: Swelling and pain in soles of feet when walking.

Ant. crud.: Great sensitiveness of soles of feet when walking.

Asaf.: Carious ulcer of the tibia, extremely sensitive to touch and extremely painful at night.

[Sticta.]: Legs as if floating in the air; she feels light and airy without any sensation of resting in bed.

Nat. carb.: Weak ankles from childhood.

Bell.: Sciatic pain aggravated on inspiration.

Carbo veg.: Great weakness or general prostration, with cold knees at night in bed.

Agaric.: Chilblains that burn and itch intolerably.

Ign.: Single convulsive jerks of arms or legs, especially on falling asleep.

Actea spic.: Rheumatic pains in small joints, as wrists, fingers, ankle, or toe joints. < after fatigue.

Baryta carb.: Throat affections after suppressed foot sweat.

Ledum.: Rheumatism begins in lower extremities and ascends.

Sleep and Dreams.

Caust.: Uneasy, restless; many motions of arms and legs during sleep.

Podoph.: Drowsy, half-closed eyes; rolling head from side to side, with moaning and whining, especially children.

Cham.: Restless sleep; moaning, starting up, crying, tossing about and talking; cross, ugly.

Coff.: Sleeplessness from excessive mental and physical excitement.

Rhus tox.: Laborious dreams of excessive bodily exertion, as running, wading in the snow, hurrying and the like.

Aethusa.: Dozing of child after vomiting spells, or after stool.

[Sticta.]: Sleepless after surgical operations.

Apis.: Sleep, with sudden starting and sudden screams.

Cocc.: Sleeplessness; from night watching; business thoughts; anxiety, restlessness.

Aur. met.: Awakened by bone pains; suffering so great he despairs, does not want to live.

Gels.: Languid and drowsy, but cannot compose the mind for sleep.

Kali carb.: Wakes in the morning about 1 or 3 o'clock and cannot sleep again, from wakefulness.

Baptis.: Delirious stupor; falls asleep while answering a question, or being talked to; besotted expression.

Cocc.: Ill effects of loss of sleep from long continued watching.

Cina.: Sudden, distressing cries in sleep, or cannot sleep, with starts; turns and tosses or kicks off the bed clothes.

Nat. mur.: Tormenting sleeplessness after gnawing grief.

Nux mosch.: Drowsy, with other complaints, particularly with pains; lies in stupid slumber.

Nat. mur.: Frequent dreams of robbers in the house and on waking; will not believe the contrary until search is made.

Opium.: Sleeplessness with acuteness of hearing; clocks striking and cocks crowing at a great distance keeps her awake.

Sulph.: Irresistible drowsiness in the daytime and wakefulness the whole night.

Ant. tart.: Cannot keep her eyes open; irresistible drowsiness, and deep, stupefied sleep; when awake, hopelessness and despair, or chill and fever, or vomiting of food.

Lach.: Seems to sleep into the troubles, such as cramp, cough, etc.

Bell.: Sleepy, yet cannot sleep.

Opium.: Flushed face; coldness of limbs; sleepy but cannot sleep; her bed feels so hot that she can hardly lie on it.

Nux vom.: Cannot keep from falling asleep in the evening, while sitting, hours before bed time.

Ant. tart.: Great sleepiness; irresistible inclination to sleep with nearly all complaints.

Bell.: Starts as in affright, from sleep on just falling sleep.

Rhus tox.: Restless at night, has to change position frequently.

Opium.: Unrefreshing soporous sleep; with eyes half open; snoring during inspiration and expiration.

Staph.: Sleepy all day long; awake all night; body aches all over.

Sulph.: Finds himself at night lying on the back.

Nux vom.: Awake at 3 a. m. with a rush of thoughts and is awake for hours; falls asleep with the bright morning, with troubled dreams, and gets up more tired than in the evening.

Cina.: Child will sleep only when violently rocked.

Kali bromat.: Night terrors of children; grinding teeth in sleep; moans; cries; horrible dreams.
