A maximum card of the early 20th Century
             The Pyramid and Sphinx
The term "maximaphily" means the hobby of collecting maximum cards. Maximum cards are NOT new, they had been existing since the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Although maximum cards existed during the time, however, they were NOT known as "maximum card" , they were just post cards affixed with a stamp of a concordance picture and cancelled with a related postmarking. These cards were mainly created by chance by the then postcard collectors visiting the historical landmark in egypt - the Pyramid and Sphinx, having discovered the similarity of the picture on the stamp and that of  the postcards readily available during the time, therefore, prompting them to create the innovation of the first maximum card.

The collecting of maximum cards gained its popularity in the Europe and maximaphily was accepted as a class of its own by the Federation of the International Philately in the year 1980.
