Welcome to Aussie Rules - An American Perspective

G'day and welcome to my reincarnated website!  Back in early 1999, I launched my initial footy website - "Aussie Rules - An American Point of View."  My original intent was to show Australians how hard it is for us Americans to follow footy in the States and how dedicated we are to overcoming all obstacles in our paths to get a view of the game each week.  The tremendous response it received from Australians (and American footy fans) was simply overwhelming.

This new website continues to build on that effort plus updates the information from my original website.

An American in love with Aussie Rules?  What's this all about?

I'm sure it's a bit odd that an American could go head over heels for such a foreign sport (at least to those in the USA anyway!). Australian Rules Football, or "footy" as Australians refer to it, is a non-stop, action filled war that caught my attention from the first day I discovered it on ESPN back in June of 1983. To live in the United States and follow footy requires the American to be a dedicated and ardent fan of the sport itself as much as his favorite team.

I would like to share with you my experiences with footy and provide some general information for those not familiar with the sport.

A Brief Overview of this Website

Here's a quick overview of what you'll find here at this website:

  • In the Spotlight takes a look at the story of how my original website gained the attention of the AFL and, subsequently, all footy fans in Australia.  (COMPLETE)

  • My Footy Story is, in essence, the book on how a young American teenager fell in love with the sport of footy through watching it on ESPN in the 1980s.  It is also the story of the struggles I had to endure to follow the sport here in the USA.  (80% COMPLETE)

  • My Footy Career is a recap of my two year stint with the Orange County Bombers of the California Australian Football League (CAFL) in the USA.  (INACTIVE)

  • Meeting Paul Roos was one of my most memorable footy experiences ever when he put on footy clinics all throughout the USA in 1999.  (INACTIVE)

  • Footy Basics is for the benefit of those newcomers to the sport.  This was a research paper I submitted in English 101 in my Freshman year of college that received an "A."  (COMPLETE)

  • Collingwood Salute is a brief tribute to my favorite footy club.  The page features some of the stars I followed religiously during my early years of following the Magpies.  (INACTIVE)

  • Peter Landy Tribute is a salute to my favorite footy commentator of all time, the now-retired Peter Landy.  (COMPLETE)

  • EA Sports AFL 9x is a quick peek at my dream-come-true in the computer gaming world.  (INACTIVE)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my website and please feel free to drop me a line to let me know what you think of Aussie Rules - An American Perspective!
