Decorating Compromises - A good thing!

Let's talk for a moment about compromise in decorating. � We all look at beautiful magazines which have our dream products in them but then we look at our check book and have to make a decision - do something now, or save forever (& by then styles will change).� I dreamed of a pink granite counter top, but I settled for white ceramic tile.� Why?� First, our backsplash was already that tile.� Second, granite costs a lot more than white tile.� Third, the marble we had on the counter tops was stained and sickening.� Fourth, We could have it now without taking out a 2d mortgage.� So we went with the tile.� I chose 5 accent piece tiles with magnolias on them.� (I know that someday I may not live here, or use magnolias as a theme, but it is a flower and so what.)� Also, Jeff took some rose colored� bullnosed pieces and edged the sink with them.� It looks SO MUCH BETTER and SO GOOD.� I really love it and am more please with it then I would have been with the dark granite.� Remember we have no natural light in this room.

MORE COMPROMISING - Let's talk faucets.� I thought I wanted that Moen faucet that everyone says is the thing and which I put on my page earlier.� But then I looked at it and looked at the American Standard faucet I bought - for $99 at Home Depot.� It is chrome & brass (matches the bathing room faucet) and it has the high pots design.� I really really really like it and am so happy I made that compromise.� Also, we kept the old cabinet shells, and the new cabinet doors Jeff made when we moved in. They are fine. Just washed them with the paint and added handles. That saved A LOT of $$$. Another compromise was the kitchen sink, we kept the old stainless steel one (stainless steel - the avacado & gold of the 90s) and it looks so much better with the new counter top & faucet.
