Russell started playing in bands at 14 when he moved back to New Zealand with his parents. One of these band was called The Interrogatives.

He recorded the song I want to be like Marlon Brando under the name of Rus Le Roc in 1980.

He played in Grease and Blood Brothers in 1983 and then, from 1986 to 1988, he starred in a live production called The Rocky Horror Show, touring in both New Zealand and Australia and giving over 450 shows.

"I did 458 performances. I was Eddie and Dr. Scott for about 400 performances and about 58 as Frank N. Furter, I was the understudy (for Frank) when the understudy nightmare came true. I actually had to go on without rehearsal, I didn't even bother to try on my shoes. I figured the other guy would do his gig. I only agreed to do it because it was an extra 50$ a week. So, suddently, bang, i'm on as Frank."

Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts:

TOFOG is the result of a friendship formed between Dean Cochran and Russell. They met while both working together on the Rocky Horror Show (Dean was a guitarist). When they arrived in Australia in 1987, they spent a lot of time writing and recording songs together and that gave them a lot of material to work with. The decided to form a band and that band is TOFOG.

Russell Crowe: Lead singer and guitar.
