Cairo is dusty, dirty, crowded, noisy and messy.. But it is the most beautiful city in the world in my eyes. It has a flavour that I imagine can only be matched by Damascus, Athens, Rome or Istanbul. Where ancient historic monuments like the Pyramids stand tall next to crowded neighbourhoods like Imbaba and Shobra that are next to sophisticated neighbourhoods like Zamalek and Garden City that are next to ancient neighborhoods like Masr Al-Qadeema and Al-Qalaah that are next to modern neighborhoods like Maadi and Heliopolis.
Alexandria is my next favorite city, it's a lively city with a unique flavour and lovely harmony with the sea. It is truly the bride of the Mediterranean.
The secret of Egypt's uniqueness is Egyptians.. Egyptians are the funniest people in the world. I have not met all the people in the world, but of all the ones I have met, no one has a superior sense of humour. (:-)))
Egyptians are also strange.. They are a peaceful, sarcastic yet hard working group. For example, for 2400 years, they did not rule their own country (~350 BC till 1952 AD), still, they never seemed to be bothered by that. They would just go about their daily business, making fun of whoever was in charge today. (:-)))
Egypt is located in the heart of what is called the "old world." If there is one thing that this location has taught Egypt, it is to accept people of all sorts. Egypt is one of the few places in this world where you will see white and black people, blond and dark haired people, tall and short people, all assimilated into one nation, bound by one culture and one wicked sense of humour. (:-)))
Egypt is a land of history and originality. It has a unique flavour to it. I advise anyyone who has never been to it, to visit it.. It will be a most fulfilling experience.
