2000-01: Kariya led the team in points (36) and assists (24) almost wire to wire ... his 36 points, 12 goals, and 24 assists were all career highs... his 12 goals trailed only linemate Michael Schutte... had three assists in UMaine�s two NCAA Tournament games, including the primary assist on the game-tying goal against Minnesota (3/23) with 2.7 seconds left, and setting up the Black Bears only goal against Boston College (3/24)... his 11 multiple-point games were tops on the team... he tallied a four-point game, having a hand in all four UMaine goals in a key late season 4-2 defeat of Providence... scored the late game-winning goal in the Black Bears� 2-1 defeat of Northeastern in the first game the Hockey East quarterfinals... in UMaine�s last 12 games, Kariya tallied 19 points (6-13-19)... his +11 plus/minus rating was the best of any UMaine forward... awarded the Richard Britt Most Inspirational Player Award...
