About Me: I grew up in Santa Barbara, moved away for a few years, but found my way back. Santa Barbara is a great place to raise kids. I am lucky to have two children; Hope and West. When I'm not busy being a mom I work at an elementary school as a substitute teacher, or as I like to think of it: "secret agent teacher". My ultimate mission is to have my own classroom one day, perhaps when my kids get a little older. I would love to teach Kindergarten; I feel this is the most amazing coming of age grade within the entire formal education experience. Teaching is far more challenging than I could have ever imagined. I have a degree in Psychology, a Masters in Education, and still I feel like I learn more from my students than they could ever possibly learn from me. Moreover, I have found the younger the child is the more I learn from him/her. My greatest interest is figuring out what makes people tick: who they are, why they are the way they are, and what they want to do with their life. I love my students' unique differences: learning styles, cultures, languages, and interests. P.S. My favorite city in the entire world: San Francisco, CA.
My Teaching Philosophy: I believe teachers should strive to teach to the individual. All too often, teachers are presured to teach to the test and to find the one teaching style that will fit all students' learning style. I whole heartedly disagree with this approach. My style is an individualized approach which incorporates differentiating between students' learning styles, building on strengths to encourage self esteem, and lighting a intrinsic fire for learning. A healthy sense of humor is always paramount in the learning process; for both teachr and student!
EED 602: This computer class is amazing for teachers! The goal of the class is for the student to learn how to build their own website. From our website we can link all our goals, assignments, plans, grades, hopes, and dreams on it. Our professor is extremely brave to attempt to teach this course online. I'm so excited to use these skills in my own classroom someday. My students are going to be so impressed.
Recent picture of my family taken at a local's favorite: Music in the Park. If you ever find yourself in Santa Barbara during the summer months, you have to check it out. Free music at Cabrillo Park every Thursday night! This event has my highest local recommendation.
