(Deka/Msuna) | Map (Msuna/Milibizi)
This section is divided into two maps due to
space etc. The two maps are from Wankie Angling and Boating to Msuna,
and from Msuna to Milibizi.
There are no dam facts, just information
on how to get there, the facilities available, and what fish to catch and
some general fishing notes
Directions
Olive Beadle/Msuna
On the Bulawayo/Hwange road, turn right t the 336 kilometre peg
that leads to the Pump Station. Follow the narrow tar road past the Tiger
Mile turn off, and past the airstrip and on over the narrow bridge on the
Deka River, where the tar road ends. Continue along the dirt road for a
few more kilometres where you will come to a T junction and you take the
road on the left. (If you take the other road you will end up in
Milibizi or Binga.)
10 Kilometres from the turn of is a further road leading to the
left to Olive Beadle camp and if you go straight you will end up at Msuna
Boatel.
Milibizi
Follow the same directions but continue to the Binga Road and follow
the signs to the Ferry. Once in Milibizi the Site should be signposted.
(May still be signposted as Kamativi Angling and Boating).
If coming through from Harare it is shorter to go through Gokwe,
but the road is sometimes not the best.

Facilities
NAUZ Sites
The Nauz has two sites on this section of
river. The Olive Beadle camp is at one end whilst the Milibizi site is
at the other end. There are facilities for camping and may have chalets
for hire.
Wankie Angling and Boating also have a site
at the Hwange side of the river.
Other Facilities
There are places at both Milibizi and Msuna
for accomodation, and normally have chalets for hire or camping facilities
available.
Angling Notes
There are many very deep holes in the river bed and these normally
produce all the funnies as well as Tiger. Most people trawl for tiger with
Tiger Tads. The Bream are fairly hard to find but seem to be mainly caught
around Little Kariba and the Gwaai River. Bottlenose and Cornish Jack sem
to frequent the deeper holes on the Zambian Side of the River. Electric
barbel abound around the Msuna Boatel area.
Hunyani Salmon,Chessa and Nkupe seem to come from upstream, around
Inggs Island and towards Deka.
BEWARE OF ROCKS if you go upstream
towards Deka.
Do not attempt to go past "Black
Rock" without a guide, unless you really think you know what you are doing
and have done it before.
The river is controled by both
National Parks and the Police. Permits are required for boating and fishing
on the river.
