Week 8- Y4(Mayr 4th to May 10th)
Sunday: Today I had been planning on going to the big street festival and lantern parade in honour of Buddha's birthday, but it was drizzly and cold, and we were a little hungover. So Summer, Mark (who crashed on our couch) and I went for breakfast at Indigo (ha! I use the term breakfast loosely. It was actually about 3pm!) and then lazed around our living room watching movies and episodes of Arrested Development. We were still lazing around by 10pm when I was supposed to meet some dance studio people to celebrate Bryan's birthday. It took me a few more hours, but I did finally venture out into the rain, and lasted about an hour before I was back at home on the couch watching tv with Summer and Mark! Tomorrow is a holiday, so Summer and I are going to the beach! Hopefully the weather will be good!
Monday: Summer and I got up somewhat early for a vacation day to go to a beach on an island called Muuido, which is close to Incheon Airport. We ended up getting a slow start, waiting for a long time at the coffee shop, then missing the bus that would take us to the airport. When we finally got to the airport, it took us awhile to figure out exactly how to get to Muuido. We ended up taking a bus, then a short ferry ride, then walking over a hill for about 20 minutes to get to the beach! The beach was nice, however the weather was WAY too cold still for us to actually enjoy it. We stayed for about an hour, shivering on the beach, and then we went inside to eat dakdoritang (a spicy chicken stew). Unfortunately, it took us even longer to get back-- we missed one bus, and we had to wait an hour for the next one! So we ended up walking for about an hour to another bus connection, and then we ended up taking the subway from Incheon City. Well, at least we know for next time . . .
Tuesday: Another vacation day for me-- it's the school's anniversary! (I love May-- I don't think there's a single week where I'm actually working a full week this month). Summer and I had agreed to host the weekly quiz night at Orange Tree, so we spent most of our time at the beach coming up with trivia questions. Here were our categories: Korean culture (including some cheeky references, like Who was the local singer/songwriter featured in the April issue of ROKon, the answer being our friend Mark Baker, who also happened to be at the quiz night!); alcohol trivia; a geography round featuring a map of the Middle East; a picture round where we showed pictures of people and you had to tell us how they died; and finally a music clip round where we played clips of songs, and you had to tell us what movie it came from. All in all, a fun night, and we got free drinks and food to boot!
Saturday: I taught my salsa class all on my own for the first time tonight! I was pretty nervous, but it went really well! In fact, the studio had a really busy productive night in general, which is awesome, since I know we were all a little worried that we'd lose business for the month that Joey and Helen are gone. But tonight went so well, I think that the rest of the month will be fine! One thing that's kind of bugging me though-- I've had to turn down several gigs this month because of the studio, and I'm not even really getting paid to teach here (just free classes). I know it's only for a month, and I can sub out most other times if I need to, but it's kind of annoying. After class, I met up with Bobby to go to a club opening. Bobby has started taking belly dancing classes, and her teacher was performing at the club opening. It was really cool! In fact, I think that I may be joining Bobby at her next belly dancing class . . .
