Sunday:
Moving day! I got up extra early to finish the move,
and Garan joined me a couple hours later to help out.
The moving van came at 3pm, and my moving guys were so
fast that they cleared out my apartment in 5 minutes
(with an extra pair of hands from Garan). I was about
to help, but I looked around and there was nothing
left to move. I was totally impressed. When I got to
the new place, it was still in complete disarray--
Bobby and Summer moved in yesterday, and one of the
old tenants hasn't actually moved out yet, so there's
boxes and pandemonium everywhere! I didn't even know
where to start . . . Garan hung around while I tried
to get some kind of organization going, and helped all
three of us girls with the moving of furniture and
what not. Finally at 1:30, I gave up for the night
and pushed everything off my bed to at least get a
couple of hours of sleep-- back to school tomorrow
before the crack of dawn!

Monday:
Back to school! I had to get up before the crack of
dawn (literally-- I got up at 5am!) to catch a 7:30am
bus to Iksan. Why? Because us professors had to do
the same stupid contract signing ceremony with the
dean of the college that we had to do last year.
These things always make me incredibly uncomfortable,
as the ceremony is all in Korean and I'm so scared of
"messing up" that I'm studying everyone's hand motions
and positions very intensely. Everything is very
formal and awkward . . . I'd rather be at the dentist!
Today I also learned that another vocal professor has
been hired. I was slightly worried at first, because
the new professor is Hye Jin Jo. She taught part-time
at PaekChe during my first semester, and then she went
to New York to do her masters. The first time I met
her, she seemed kind of cold and bitchy. But when I
met her today, she was lovely! It's really great to
have another female professor around, and seeing as
there are 150 vocal students, I very much need the
extra professor! Actually my schedule will stay the
same-- all the improv classes and about 4 jazz choirs;
but now Hye Jin will take some of the jazz choirs, a
bunch of private students, and she can help me with
the planning and logistics of the vocal department.
Thank god!
This year is turning out to be a nightmare in
scheduling-- PaekChe's Seoul campus is actually
illegal, due to some crazy zoning laws. Another
school got jealous and reported to the government that
we had been conducting classes in Seoul, so this year,
we have to have all of our major classes in Iksan!
That means really tight scheduling, and very little
leeway for changes. I'm disappointed because my Iksan
days are Tuesday and Wednesday, which means a) I have
to stay in Iksan overnight and b) I'm losing out on
the salsa class that I usually take on Tuesday nights!
Boo!

Tuesday:
Another early morning, another day in Iksan. Since
the schedule isn't really solidified yet, I didn't
really teach anything at all. And unfortunately I've
learned that one of my 1st year improv classes is
HUGE! 45 people and there's no way to split it up!
This semester is going to be trying on my nerves.
Also, my apartment is in complete disarray right now,
as I struggle to unpack a little more every night when
I get home! All I want is some organization in my
life right now!

Wednesday:
And one more day in Iksan. Same thing, not very much
teaching, but I'm exhausted!
When I got home from work tonight, I headed over to
Elinza's for a dinner party-- lots of fun. It's
really nice that I don't have to go far for this stuff
anymore-- Elinza lives in Haebangchon too!

Thursday:
My day off! This afternoon, I finally finished
unpacking, and Bobby and I even found time to organize
our kitchen and living room a little. So far the
roommate situation is working out really well. We've
been getting along great, and all three of us are
really busy, so I still get some privacy when I need
it as well.

Friday:
Today I taught a new class at the hagwon. My three
beginners are really smart and sweet! I'm looking
forward to teaching them. After class, I had a
planning lunch with Hye Jin. We're getting along
really well-- she's funny and generous, and we agreed
on a lot of ideas right away. Hye Jin is still
finishing her masters in New York, and she's going to
be absent for 3 weeks, so I'll be covering her
ensembles until she gets back for good. Once again,
I'm so relieved to have an extra hand, and I'm really
happy to have a new female friend.
Tonight we had a Bamboo Wife meeting at Garan's place.
Nate just got back, and we've got to get back to work
and make our band into something better! We talked a
lot about what direction we want to go in, jammed a
little bit, and chose some songs. I'm still uncertain
that it's salvageable, but I guess we're all willing
to put some effort into making this into something
worthwhile.

Saturday:
A professor's lunch today-- apparently it's the
tradition that everytime a new fulltime professor is
hired, he or she has to treat all of us to lunch. So
Hye Jin had to take us out to lunch! We had shabu
shabu, which is kind of a beef stew. Afterwards the
broth is used for noodles, and then to make a rice
porridge. It's really filling!
Tonight I took my salsa class and then taught my salsa
class after. Teaching is getting easier, which is
good, but it's really exhausting to study and teach
back to back. Helen and Joey and Bryan are missing
having me around the studio during the week so much
that they're considering moving the intermediate class
to a different day! And I miss being around the
studio a lot too, but work needs to settle down first.
