Week 51- Y3(Feb 24th to Mar 1st)
Tuesday: This is going to be a crazy week! I'm trying to get my apartment packed as well as plan all of my school stuff. Too much! Also this afternoon, I met Mark Baker for a quick rehearsal-- the cd (Used Flowers) that I recorded backup vocals for in the fall is finally finished and ready to go, so on Saturday, we're doing a cd release party at Club Ta. My big problem with Mark is that he doesn't really know anything about music at all, he just does everything intuitively. That makes it difficult to communicate with him, and it makes him super inconsistent with things like phrasing and timing, thus making us sound slightly out of sync. I hope this concert goes okay . . .
Wednesday: Tonight I met Summer and Bobby at Phillies in Haebangchon for a little hang, and for some "quiz night" action. Thank god for Summer (and Garan who eventually joined us), because Bobby and I were useless with the quiz questions! Again, it was pretty awesome to be surrounded by familiar faces, and to be running into people I know randomly in Haebangchon.
Thursday: Today I had to go down to Iksan to renew my visa for another year. This involved me getting up early, taking the bus for 2 and a half hours, waiting for an hour and a half at the immigration office, and then getting back on the bus for another 2 and a half hours. What a boring day! (And a waste of valuable time) When I got back to Seoul, I had to rush to a rehearsal with Baker's whole band, which consisted of Garan and the other St. John the Gambler members. It went . . . okay. The drummer is kind of iffy, and I'm not really sure if this show is going to come off well or not. Afterwards, we all went to Phillies for a little bit, but I was pretty tired, and Garan and I are sticking to our no drinking for a month rule, so I bailed out pretty early.
Saturday: More salsa teaching tonight. It's getting easier, and Bryan's getting better at slowing down and picking better moves for the students. It's really fun! After salsa class, I had to rush to Club Ta for the cd release party. Parts of it went okay, but parts of it were really dicey as well. Overall, I think Mark was satisfied with the show, and there was a really big crowd, so I think lots of cds were sold, which is pretty cool. Again, I was pretty exhausted, and I still had packing to finish, so I bailed out almost right after the show.
