Week 51 - Y2 (Feb 18th to Feb 24th)
Sunday Feb 18th, This afternoon, Evan and Ali came to keep me company at my apartment. Turns out that Ali has to leave soon-- her dad is pretty ill, and it looks like he's going to need a liver transplant, so she's going to go home early. This throws a big wrench in Evan and Ali's longterm plans-- Ali was going to try to move to Canada after they were finished in Korea. Plus, they were planning on travelling for awhile as well. Now, depending on what happens with Ali's dad, it looks like Evan might be moving to England instead. So hopefully, I'll get better sooner rather than later, cause I'm going to need to make it to Daegu to see Ali before she leaves!
Monday Feb 19th, I decided I've had enough, and took off the splint today. It still hurts a lot, I'm still limping, and it's still really bruised and swelled up. But I'm walking! I even went to the corner store sans crutches today. It was quite an achievement!
Thursday Feb 22nd, I went to the doctor today, to return the crutches and get a check-up on my foot. To my utter dismay, the xrays showed that the toe is not remotely close to healed yet, and because of where the toe is broken (at a point where a lot of walking weight goes on it), I have to keep the crutches for another 3 weeks! I thought the end was in sight . . . So I'm back on the crutches, back on the anti-inflammatories, and now on calcium pills at the doctor's orders. After the appointment, I kind of went against doctor's orders and walked around Itaewon a bit. I know I probably just set myself back another week, but let's just say my mental health needed it! There are few feelings I hate more than sloth and uselessness-- fine for a couple of days, but 3 weeks? No thanks. I had a latte, went to the used bookstore, and had a burrito at "Taco" while reading a fashion magazine. Exactly what I needed! BTW, what has happened to all the young foreigner guys in Seoul? Everywhere I turn, there's another creepy older man cheesing out stupid lines like "Wow, you look like a movie star", "You have a great sense of style" and so on. What makes men who are old enough to be my father think that just cause they're in Korea, a 20-something-year-old girl might all of a sudden, out of the blue, decide that YES! That's exactly what I need! A slimy, old and obviously desperate guy to be my boyfriend! Unfortunately, the bitter reality for right now is that I can't just walk away like I normally would, I have to hobble or crutch away, or have to rely on avoiding eye contact while giving mono-syllabic answers; which gives them more time to spew out their stupid lines. Sigh.
Saturday Feb 24th, Since I'm still on "house arrest", I've been working on a lot of arranging, writing and course planning for 2007. One week til school starts. At least I have something productive to do.
