Week 41- Y3(Dec 16th to Dec 22nd)
Sunday:Tonight was the listening party for Mark Baker's soloalbum (the one that I recorded backing vocals for). So Garan, myself, and the other musicians all squeezedinto Brandon's apartment for a wine and cheese party, and then a jam session after listening to the CD. Ithasn't been mastered yet, but it sounds pretty good! And now, my vacation has officially begun . . . bringon the unstructured time!
Monday:Vacation, sweet vacation! This is my first day ofpure unadulterated free time. Ironically, I kind ofdon't know what to do with myself now that thepressure is off.Anyway, turns out that Garan has tonsilitis and hasbeen ordered by the doctor to stay home from work for2 days. Since everyone else was at work, I went overto his place to keep him company. Being sick sucks!(At least tonisilitis isn't contagious)
Tuesday:Andy and I used our winnings from the salsa contesttonight-- we won a gift certificate to La Plancha, areally nice grill restaurant in Itaewon. Mmmm, salmonwithout processed cheese sauce, vegetable skewers, yum! As for Andy, I'm pretty frustrated, becausewhile I've been pretty clear that I'm not interestedin him romantically, he's still hanging on to somekind of notion that there could be something there. We don't even have anything in common. I wish I couldset him up with another girl.Other things that I'm frustrated with: my band. Wehave a gig on Saturday, and we were supposed to have arehearsal tonight. Garan understandably cancelledbecause he's sick, but turns out Trevor forgotentirely and made other plans. Then Nate flaked outand forgot to a) cancel our time at the rehearsalstudio, so we'll have to pay for it anyway and b)forgot to communicate with Trevor and Garan aboutrescheduling a rehearsal. I enjoy the social aspectsof this band, but there is a distinct lack ofprofessionalism that I'm not very used to.
Saturday:Tonight Bamboo Wife had a gig lined up at Club Ta inHongdae. The gig was for our friends' band The FortyDays' CD release party. I was concerned about thegig, because Garan was still really sick, and I'mstill fighting this damn head cold that won't go away, plus I was underwhelmed with our 2 practises thisweek. Anyway, The Forty Days got a really greatturn-out, and they played a really high energy set. We finished off the night at about 2:30am and it wasokay, but I don't know if this band has much of afuture . . . Nate is going home for a couple months,so we're going to be on hiatus for awhile, and I havea feeling that we might end up on permanent hiatus. Anyhow, the party after the gig was pretty happening! I took advantage of my free drink tickets for gigging, and we all eventually ended up in a bar inHaebangchon. Mark and I were the last two standing atabout 6am, and we went to the only place he knew thatwas still open at that time-- the only decent bar onHooker Hill! Our goal was to stay up until 10am, asMark was due at Brandon's house to see Brandon off atthat time (Brandon is leaving Korea forever!). Wemade it, said our goodbyes, and made off with prettymuch all the food in Brandon's kitchen, end tables, lamps, etc. It must have been quite a sight to see 2people struggling down the giant hill that Brandonlives at the top with, loaded down with all kinds ofrandom stuff. After a full 12 hours of hijinks, Iwas truly exhausted and crashed hard!
