Week 40 (Nov 27th to Dec 3rd)
Monday Nov 28th,I may have mentioned that I now teach on Monday nights as well. I teach a group of 4 kids, ranging from 10-13, for 1 hour, and get 30,000 won and dinner for it, so it's a pretty easy gig. Julie, the lady that I do it for, is incredibly sweet and motherly, and everytime I come, she absolutely stuffs me full of food! It makes Mondays an extremely long day, but it's worth it in the end.
Tuesday Nov 29th,Things are still really busy at Wonderland, trying to get report cards for all of our students done and plan for December. Plus Sue (my school director) is opening up a new school for older students in January. The new school will be 2 floors up from Wonderland, and it will have 2 foreign teachers and 2 Korean teachers. This means that I'm actually losing a couple of my afternoon classes, which I have mixed feelings about. I'm happy that my workload will be a little lighter (you could say we're a little over-worked right now!), but I'm not happy that I'm losing one of my favourite classes. They've made so much progress with me over the past few months, and because they're a little older, they really want to talk to me and tell me things, and they are so curious about my life too. I'm also suspicious that Sue will find some other way to "keep us busy" at work; she always finds something!
Friday Dec 2nd,Tonight Carey and I took Ryan and LIndsey out for their first real Korean meal: samgyeopsal, which is pork belly that is barbecued at the table and then wrapped in leaves. They liked it a lot. They've moved into a new apartment, which happens to be across the street from mine, so it's going to make for some easy contact. We had dinner on our street, and then we went to a bar also on our street, and it took me about 30 seconds to walk home! I love it!
Saturday Dec 3rd,Tonight, I got to really take Ryan and Lindsey out, for the first time. We met Phil and Mike (from the funk band) and some other friends out in Seong-Seo(west Daegu) to have some Indian food for dinner first. It was really nice, everyone was getting along, the conversation was witty and intelligent. From there, we went to a bar in Seong-Seo named "Elvis" for more drinks and socializing, and then we finished our night hanging out in Mike's apartment (which is not much bigger than mine, but somehow looksway nicer. I'm always jealous of other peoples' apartments). In true Daegu fashion, we made it back to Chilgok at about 7am. I didn't get to take Ryan and Lindsey downtown, which is what I had intended to do, but they had a lot of fun anyway, and I'm really glad that they got to meet some more people in Daegu. So far, it's been really great having them here; we've all been getting along great, and it seems like they'll fit in with my friends here really nicely!
