Sunday Nov 19th,
Hurting. I do need to sleep at some point this
weekend, don't I? I wanted to have a big weekend this
weekend, because I know how busy things are going to
get starting tomorrow-- back to the real world for me.

Tuesday Nov 21st,
I started the gig at Chicago tonight, and I hate it
already. First Chang Hyun, my bass player had to sub
out at the last minute (stuck in traffic coming back
from Iksan), and I didn't get the message until
another girl, Jung Lim walked in with a bass.
So we played our set, chock-full of lame standards
that I hate, and Bong Won, the club owner still didn't
like it! He keeps on asking for more "upbeat" songs.
I was kind like, were you listening at all? Then for
my solo set, where I accompany myself and sing, he
actually asked me if I knew any Elton John songs. I
was kind of like, uh, no, and I don't plan on learning
any either, so don't get your hopes up. Damn, if it
weren't for the money . . .

Wednesday Nov 22nd,
Oh my god, I hate this gig so frickin much! So
tonight, I learned that every other musician at this
club makes about half of what I'm making. To me, it
was bad enough that he wanted to pay me $60 for each
set, while only paying my piano and bass players $40.
(Without telling the club owner, I told my musicians
that I would give them an extra $10 to make it even)
But apparently everyone else only makes $35 per set.
THEN he had the nerve to insist that I find a
"blackman" saxophone player or a foreigner saxophone
player. After I got over the incredibly blatant
racism, I reminded Bong Won that we're in frickin
Korea and there are almost no foreigner musicians
here! I suppose I could ask Kenji if he could do some
nights, but this gig sucks so much, I would feel
guilty asking for his time. Aggh. And then, Chang
Hyun couldn't come, and couldn't find a bass sub
either. Now I need to find a new bass player . . .

Friday Nov 24th,
Went to the travel clinic today to get my shots for
Southeast Asia-- turns out that I haven't had any
shots in so long, I needed boosters for pretty much
everything! Oops . . .
Today I got Hep A and B, and typhoid, and my arm is
killing me! I have to go back next week to get the
rest . . . sucks, but means that my vacation is
quickly approaching!
So . . . turns out that the other singers found out
that they're getting way less money and quit! Good
for them! Unfortunately, they took Ji Hye, my pianist
with them (she was playing for the other singers too).
Lucky for me, Ji Hye is fabulous, and already found
me another piano player.
Now of course, there's money stuff to deal with at
Chicago. Bong Won wants to pay once a month, direct
deposit into our accounts. Of course, this is not
going to work for me, because it's going to be a
little obvious that I'm working illegally when tons of
money starts appearing in my account on a month to
month basis. I already told Bong Won this. So now
we're arguing over how I get paid . . . I think I'm
going to stick it out until I leave for Thailand, and
then I just won't come back when I get back to Korea.
He wants me to guarantee that I'll stay at least 3
months, but I'm going to go crazy if I have to be at
this goddamn club 4 nights a week for 3 months.
