Sun:
I am in agony! I can barely get out of bed, and it actually just hurts to lie down anyway, so I can't sleep. Plus now, the pain has extended all the way down to my left knee, and my neck is so bad that I can barely move it. Aside from this, I've also developed a little cold, and it hurts my back every time I sneeze or cough. I think I may actually be calling in sick for the very first time tomorrow.

Monday:
Today I was in so much pain, I struggle to even get out of bed. So I did something I've never done before at this job: I called in sick. Almost right away, I started getting text messages from concerned students and teachers-- I guess they know that if I call in sick, something must be really wrong! Now in addition to my lower left back, I can no longer move my neck, and I'm having trouble with my whole left leg, and both knees are numb and have lost most of their range of motion. It hurts when I stand, lay down, walk and sit, so basically everything I do hurts right now.
At the doctor's office, I was informed that the next step is to do an MRI test for my back. When I told him about my neck, he did an xray, and discovered that the curvature of my neck is completely messed up, probably from years of being hunched over a piano. So in addition to 2 injections, painkillers and anti-inflammatories, I'm also going to need several months of physio-therapy just for my neck at the least, to correct to curvature. For my back, who knows. The nurses set up my first physio appointment for today, with a guy in the same building who focuses on a combination of acupressure and chiropractic manipulations. The first thing he did was poke around all my bones from head to toe. The conversation kind of went like this: "Okay, so your neck is curved wrong. Alright, so your collarbone is out of alignment. So your ribcage is tilted, one hip is higher than the other, and your knees are rotating inward . . . you have a lot of problems".
Ha. Guess that's an understatement. Today he couldn't do much due to the amount of pain I was in, so I spent most of the session laying on a cold compress.

Tuesday:
More physio. This is going to be a huge pain in the ass, and it's going to end up costing me so much that I probably won't be able to take my vacation to Indonesia this winter. I'm pretty upset about this of course. I'm also upset that this is distracting me from my grad school application, and that I can't dance for several months.

Thursday:
So Bobby's England boyfriend randomly showed up tonight for a surprise weekend visit . . . from ENGLAND! How romantic and awesome is that!

Friday:
I had my first MRI today, which is not covered by my health insurance, so it set me back 400, 000 won. Grr. And the kicker is that nothing came up on it . . . apparently my spine is perfectly healthy! I was really upset by this. I know I'm supposed to be relieved that nothing is wrong with my spine, but now I just don't know why I'm in so much pain, and how long it's going to take to fix it. I just wanted to know that there was a solution to the problem in sight, and now I'm just in limbo, and still in just as much pain. I'm also pissed off that I had to waste SO much money on a useless test.
Despite my mood, Bobby did manage to cajole me out for dinner with Summer, Matty and Dan (her England boyfriend, who is a really nice guy). We ate spicy chicken soup at a real hole in the wall Korean restaurant in a really old neighbourhood. It was good, but the painkillers are making me lose my appetite, and I'm just too grumpy to be very social these days.

Saturday:
A little progress in physio today. I can actually move my neck a little more now, so I guess the physio, and the neck brace are helping a little bit. I wish it would help faster.
Later on, I went to a rehearsal for the Grateful Dead stuff. Somehow this project makes me feel like I'm a slave-driving den mother. It's not even my band, and yet I'm the only one who's keeping our rehearsal schedule on track! Hopefully this is the end of the Grateful Dead cover band after the gigs next week . . .
I was supposed to go to a birthday party for someone from the dance studio tonight, but after rehearsal, I was definitely hurting, and the idea of going to Caliente and watching everyone dance except for me was too much to bear, so I went home and curled into bed by 11pm. Ha. Big weekend for me.
