Sunday:Today I had a movie date with Andy in the afternoon. Going on about 2 hours of sleep did not put me in thebest of dispositions, coupled with the fact that themovie was the Bourne Ultimatum, which I haveabsolutely no interest in= me sleeping through part ofthe movie! Oops-- I hope Andy wasn't too offended . .. Back to work tomorrow-- I almost feel like I need avacation from my vacation! |

Tuesday:So tonight was my private salsa lesson with Andy. Helen basically kicked our asses on technique andstyle, which I'm all for; but it is slightly awkwardwith Andy's little crush!Afterwards, we met Marisol and friends at a bar inHaebangchon-- tomorrow is a holiday! Haebangchon is aneighbourhood close to Itaewon. After the Korean War,it was basically a shantytown for the poor, disabled, and prostitutes. Now it's where a lot of theforeigners live! It seems like everyone knowseveryone in this neighbourhood-- not at all like myneighbourhood, where I'm the only foreigner! There'salso cool things going on in Haebangchon. Forexample, tonight was an improv comedy show at the barwe were at. There's also lots of open mic nights, festivals, so on. If Haebangchon were closer to mywork, I'd consider moving! |

Wednesday:Today, Marisol, Jessica and I had planned to go to theGwacheon International Theatre Festival, but as itturned out, all the plays today were outside, and theweater was not cooperating. So instead, we went tothe movies. I'm not a big fan of movie theatres tobegin with (overpriced, uncomfortable seats, usuallydirty), but it's worse in Korea-- there's only ever 1or 2 English movies to choose from! We ended upseeing the Nanny Diaries, which was okay, but Iprobably wouldn't have bothered to see it otherwise. |

Friday:So much for a day off! Today I had to make up thejazz choir classes that I missed on Wednesday'sholiday, plus teach a private. It's gotten to thepoint that Sunday is my only day off in a week-- Iwent from working 3 days a week to 6! After I taughtSage his vocal lesson, we went over to the coffee shopand started my Korean lessons! I've never everstudied Korean formally, and while I knew most of thematerial in the first chapter, it helped SO much tohave an actual explanation. I don't know when I'mgoing to find the time to study though . . .Our lesson ended up going super long, and I had torace to get to band practise on time. We've bookedour first gig-- a festival in Haebangchon. However,we are still nameless as of yet . . .After band practise, I had invited some people over tomy place to watch . . . Star Wars! I've never reallyseen it. Of course, I have some vague memories ofseeing scenes from it when I was a child, but I can'tremember actually sitting down and paying attention. Anyway, whenever people find out that I haven't seenStar Wars, they usually freak out and try to plan amarathon for me! Garan was no exception, being kindof a sci-fi geek. So I stocked up on beer and snacks, and planned a night. Unfortunately, Star Wars justwasn't in the cards for tonight . . . first of all, myplace was probably the worst place to do it,considering that it's the hardest to find. It tookquite a while to get everyone there. Then there's thelack of speakers on my computer-- it becomes suddenlymore apparent in a room full of drunk people! Andthen, my computer started crashing repeatedly! And,finally, there was a small but awkward conflictbetween Jess and Nate. So . . . Star Wars missionfailed. |
