Tuesday:
Our friend Joe has just come back from Japan, and tomorrow he's leaving Korea forever! Joe had left a bunch of his luggage at our place for storage while he took one last Asia trip before going back to New York. Tonight, Summer and I took Joe to Orange Tree for one last night out, and for one last bar quiz night. I'm sad to see him go, but New York isn't too far, so hopefully I'll be seeing him again someday!

Wednesday:
Wow. There is some crazy crazy political stuff going on at work . . . At about 7 this morning, I got a text message from Chang Hyun, one of the fulltime bass professors, saying that there was a meeting at 9am today. I wrote back, "What meeting?" and also said that I couldn't be there, as I'd already be on my way to Iksan for the day. Later that day, I discovered that about half of the fulltime music professors have been having regular meetings over the past 2 months because . . . they're trying to get Jae fired!!!!! This totally came out of left field for me, and I guess they've decided to include Kenji and I now. From what I can tell, there aren't any good reasons for firing Jae, it just seems like a bunch of over-dramatic silliness, so I'm hoping to sidestep the issue entirely and NOT have to take sides at all. However, this is Korea, and grown businessmen have a tendency to behave like clique-y high school girls . . . it looks like this could
turn into a him or them kind of situation, and either outcome is bad . . . if Jae is actually dismissed by the dean of the university (which seems relatively unlikely to me), then whoever replaces him could endanger my job stability, seeing as Jae is the one who hired me. If the others are dismissed, then we need to find at least 5 fulltime professors in no time flat. All over what seems to be nothing!

Thursday:
So I'm playing Joey and Helen's next week, and I needed to hire a pianist and a bassist. I ended up calling my former vocal student Su Bok (who was actually a piano major at the hagwon) and she's going to do it! There's something great about working with a former student as a colleague; it's like coming full circle. I'm really looking forward to seeing her!

Saturday:
It's Chuseok weekend (Korean Thanksgiving), which means no work on Monday, and a big party weekend for most foreigners. In fact, Summer is going to DeokJeok Island for a beach weekend with some of our friends. But I'm exhuasted, and it's only September! This weekend is going to be about chilling out and having quiet dinners with friends for me, no crazy parties this time!
