Sunday:
Back to Seoul. Tonight was Adrien's last night, but since I actually have to work tomorrow, I couldn't go out! Adrien was a lot of fun, and I'm hoping that he will meet up with my friend Steph from Toronto when she moves to Paris in September . . .

Monday (August 25):
Back to work! Sort of . . . I didn't actually have any classes today, just getting my schedule (which is still not finalized) and meeting some students.
I came home from work and found myself alone in the apartment, which I thought was strange: no Max in his underwear on the couch? Something seemed fishy . . . when Fred came home, he filled me in--Max had left that afternoon with 2 bags and his magic hat, and said that he was going to Japan for a couple days and he'd be back soon. Fred was immediately suspicious, and with good reason-- as I found out from Summer, Max was due to meet his girlfriend in Japan and his Korean visa was expiring. So Max took off without a word, and without paying for the bills. Great. What a jerk. Damn.
That said, it was really nice to have him out of the apartment, and to spend an evening with Fred without the other Frenchies!

Tuesday:
Today I had to go all the way to Iksan for another stupid professors' meeting, which of course was all in Korean, and entirely irrelevant to me. Blah. When I got back to Seoul, Summer was back! YAY! I'm so happy to have one of my girls back!

Wednesday:
And the real work begins. My schedule sucks this semester: I teach in Iksan on Wednesday and Thursday, but my classes don't finish until 6:30 on Wednesday. So that means I'll have to sleep in Iksan on Wednesday nights. Boo. Today, since my classes hadn't been divided into sections yet, I taught everyone together and managed to finish early so that I could go back to Seoul. I miss my vacation time already!

Friday:
Summer and I decided at the last minute to have a party this weekend. The purpose is twofold: first, to welcome Summer back, and second, to say goodbye to Fred. However, last minute party means last minute planning, and that meant a lot of running around and buying random barbecue ingredients today. We decided this time to make some salads and side dishes, and leave the meat up to the guests. However, that still required the purchasing of a lot of ingredients! I made my rice and peas again, since they were such a hit last time, and Summer made some potato salad, and we made a marinade for grilled veggies.
Later on that night, I took Fred for galbi (something I can't do with Rashid and Hassan!), and then to Caliente, where I taught him the basic steps for merengue, bachata and salsa. He's so talented! I was really impressed that he picked up the steps really quickly, and when he started experimenting and improvising, he naturally fell into moves that most people have to practise for months. It's a shame that his talent is wasted while he teaches physics to French high school kids.

Saturday:
Party day. Another morning of running around like crazy, getting last minute items, and trying to manouver watermelons up large Haebangchon hills. And at first it seemed like my efforts were wasted . . . Rashid and Hassan booked a competition for today at 7pm without telling Fred first, and our invitations were so last minute, that nobody actually showed up until about 7pm! Nonetheless, we had a nice quiet chilled out party on the roof with candlelight. The French guys showed up later with some Korean b-boys, which was kind of weird, because the party was really fragmented: on one side the "rock and roll" people, on the other side, the "hip hop" people who were further divided into French speakers and Korean speakers. Definitely a strange party.
