Sunday July 17th, Some bad news: our friend Charlotte, who was at the mud festival this weekend hurt herself pretty badly and has managed to break her leg. The break is bad enough that she has to have metal plates put in her leg, and she'll be stuck in the hospital for at least two weeks. I think the recovery time after the hospital will be very long and extensive, and we're worried that she will have to leave her contract. I can only imagine if one of the four foreign teachers at our school was out for more than two weeks-- we can barely handle one day with one of us sick! Poor Charlotte must be so bored in the hospital by herself . . . I can't imagine having something like that happen when you're so far from home. |

Monday July 18th, It seems like the strangest things happen to me in Korea. Everyone here drives like maniacs, like parking in random spots on the street, riding motorcycles on the sidewalk, making surprise u-turns etc. So I have this fear that I'm going to get run over by a motorcycle or something.Today I was walking home from school, and lo and behold, a kid on a bicycle barrelled straight into me
from behind. The impact was so sudden and so fast that both of us hit the ground right away. I was dripping blood from my elbow, and at first I thought that I had sprained my wrist, and the kid didn't even apologize! I was worried about getting hit by a car, but I didn't realize that I had to watch out for chubby kids on bikes too!

Saturday July 23rd, Today has been full of errands. I had to get a Japan Rail Pass from my travel agent, book a train ticket to Busan, where my flight leaves from and so on! There are so many details involved in travelling. I'm really excited to go, but I'm scared that I'm going to forget to do something huge. The highlight of today: I bought a digital camera! I got a Nikon with 5.1 mp for $290, including the memory card, the charger, the cables and what not. I was so thrilled with my purchase that I can't stop taking
pictures! I don't really know how to use it yet because the instruction book is all in Korean and Japanese, but I'm hoping that someone will show me how to use it eventually!
