Week 19- Y4(Jul 20th to Jul 26th)
Friday July 25: Back in Korea after a long wonderful month in Toronto/Oshawa! Highlights of home: meeting my little nephew for the first time, seeing good live music, including Fela Kuti's son Seun Kuti, and Seamus Blake in the jazz festival, hanging with some very attractive Brazilian boys who know how to samba, and beautiful weather! I'm not terribly thrilled to be back in Korea right now-- it's pouring rain, and it's deathly hot and humid. Boo! However, it is great to see my wonderful roommates again! While I was in Canada, an Argentinian magician named Max was renting my room. Since he is staying in Korea for another month, Summer is going to rent her room to him while she's in Texas for August. So it's a full house right now! I was happy to come back to a nicely cleaned room, but I'm not sure about Max yet! He talks A LOT and honestly, half the time, I can't really understand what he's saying. But Summer and Bobby seem to have been getting along with him well, so I'm going to give him a chance, especially since I have to live with him for the next month.
Saturday: I'm still really jet lagged, but jumping right back into the swing of things anyway! This morning, Summer, Max and I went for breakfast at Indigo-- of course it's the first place I have to go when I come back to Seoul! And of course I ran into lots of people I know. After breakfast, we hung around the apartment for a little, and then it was off to salsa class for me. Chris is back in town! Chris was the guy who was kind of being groomed to be my dance partner back in the winter, but he had to go home suddenly when his grandfather got sick and his help was needed in running the family farm. But now he's back, and dancing better than ever! However, there's been some other drama at the studio since I've been gone: Bryan, my teaching partner was fired/quit. Apparently his behaviour had been quite erratic since he broke up with his boyfriend, and he pulled a few no-shows, and Helen and Joey just got fed up. Helen is pretty upset about it, because Bryan is her little brother, and she hasn't even heard from him at all since he left the studio. I was kind of pissed off that nobody informed me about what was going on while I was gone. Because they had to find someone to cover the class so quickly, they really weren't thinking about longterm, and what's ended up happening is that I don't have to teach until September, but Chris will be my new teaching partner then. Right now he's being trained to teach. After salsa, I went to meet up with Summer, Joe and everyone else to celebrate Joe's last weekend in Korea. The idea was to do a pub crawl that ended at Stompers for the 40 Days last show in Korea (Adam the bass player is leaving as well). This took us to some very interesting places, including a genuine country and western bar, where Koreans were actually doing line dancing and 2 steps! Summer and Phil, embracing their Texan roots, actually demonstrated a 2 step for me, which was pretty fun! When we finally got to Stompers, it was packed with pretty much everyone I know in Korea, which was great, cause it was like a big 'ol reunion for me! A great night!
