Monday May 29th,
Yoo Oak and I had to cancel our weekly dinner date,
because she had to wait at the school for some
advertising books to be delivered. These books
include curriculum for the school, information on
teachers and special workshops and so on. It's pretty
weird to open the book up and see my picture and
biography heading up the vocal department . . .

Thursday June 1st,
With teaching, it's always like one step forward and
two steps back. I was so proud to show off my
students to Trish and Denny last week, happy to brag
about their progress. But then this week, two weeks
before their final exams, attendance has been pretty
low, and the students who did their tests today in
improv class were a lot weaker than I expected. I
know they're busy, they're lazy students, blah, blah,
blah, but it's hard not to take it personally.

Saturday June 3rd,
No social life for me this weekend-- too much marking
to do! This is the flipside of me having such an easy
week-to-week schedule-- now I have to mark 150
homework assignments, calculate final marks for 150
students, etc. On top of all of this, there are very
regimented guidelines about how many students can fall
into each percentile. Only 5-10% of students can
receive As, and 5% of students must fail. 10% percent
can get Ds, and everyone else falls somewhere between.
This means that I'm likely going to have to doctor a
lot of marks to fit into this formula. For example,
my first year Jeonju students have done exceptionally
well as a class, and in contrast, my first year Seoul
students (a separate improv class) have an atrocious
attendance record, and many should fail because of
that. But within these classes, one good and one bad,
I somehow have to fix the marks. The frustration this
is putting me through is mind-numbing, plus I'm doing
all of this by hand, since I have no computer at home
to use.
