Week 12- Y4(Jun 1st to Jun 7th)
Sunday: We had breakfast at an Australian place this morning, and it was delicious! I'll be recommending this restaurant to anyone who will listen . . . at night, I went to my friend Dan's place for dinner. Dan is a food critic and a gourmet chef, and he had offered to make Summer, Bobby and I dinner when we came off the fast. As it turned out, Summer, Bobby and I could not find one single day where we were all available, so I ended up going alone. Dan is a fabulous cook! We had a watermelon salad, couscous, salmon with mango salsa, bruschetta, and chocolate cake for desert. Yum yum yum. Ha-- I did manage to slice my finger instead of the bread when I was slicing the baguette for the bruschetta-- we threw away the bloody piece! All in all, a great weekend, but a really jam-packed one! I'm exhausted!
Thursday (June 5): Tomorrow is a national holiday, so tonight, Summer's friend Sarah came up from the suburbs of Seoul to hang out. We had dinner at the new Middle Eastern place in Haebangchon, which actually turned out to be not very good at all. Afterwards, we met up with Dan and Anni at Phillies. Anni is leaving Korea on Tuesday to go back to her dojo in Japan-- she's a karate blackbelt, and is going back to fulltime training! After Phillies, I went into Itaewon to meet up with Bobby and some of her friends-- a very late night!
Friday: This afternoon I went to a party for Annabelle's birthday. Annabelle has still been doing that Korean tv show that features all the foreign girls speaking Korean, and it was pretty funny, because a lot of girls from the show were at the party, and our group was turning a lot of heads in the restaurant! Koreans get so starstruck, even at the most minor C-grade celebrities. I also found it kind of hilarious that the girls from the show, despite the fact that they're C-grade celebrities, actually seemed to think that they were very important celebrities and carried themselves accordingly! As much as I love Annabelle, I didn't last very long at this party. Later on that night, I joined Nate, Tommy and Zee at Orange Tree for a few drinks. We were later joined by Marc Proulx, Mark Baker and Simon, so it turned into a straight up party! On a different topic, Summer left today for Seattle, for 10 days. Why? Because the new Korean immigration laws are ridiculous . . . while trying to get a visa for her new university job, Summer discovered that she has a criminal record in Korea . . . for overstaying her visa once by 6 HOURS! Seriously! So because of the new laws, now she has to go back to her home country to have an interview at the Korean consulate there to get her new visa. Absolutely ridiculous! But on the bright side, Summer will get to visit with some friends while in Seattle, and is planning to cross the border to Vancouver for part of the trip. Strangely enough, Bobby is leaving a vacation in Malaysia tomorrow, so I'll be alone in the apartment for the next week and a half!
Saturday: Tonight Helen observed Bryan and I teaching our salsa class, and was not happy--when they were away, and I was teaching by myself, everything went SO smoothly and everyone was happy. But Bryan's teaching style is a lot different from mine-- he's very rigid and controlling and panicky-sounding, which freaks out the new students too much. Plus, he never lets me talk. So after class, the three of us had a meeting, which was kind of awkward since Bryan is Helen's younger brother, and they are both really stubborn, so most of the meeting was just them yelling at each other. But it was agreed that Bryan has to adapt his teaching style to be more like mine, and in fact, Helen eventually wants me to permanently have my own class. Glad Helen brought all this up, cause I couldn't find a way to talk to Bryan myself . . .
