Tuesday:
No school today, because it's the big concert for the Humber College
guys. There were 2 shows, and I was intending to go to both of them, but
I very stupidly didn't realize that the shows were at a different
theatre than we usually have them! So I missed the 1st show, but made it
with plenty of time for the 2nd one. Again, really great to hear solid
strong playing. At the end of the set, they did a piece written by Jae
that was designed to incorporate traditional Korean percussion and
wind instruments as well, and it was really cool! The show also featured
a very old and very famous Korean folk singer, Cheong Ik.
After the concert, Cheong Ik threw a party at his house in Seoul. His
house is in the north part of Seoul, close to Insadong, basically on
the side of a mountain. It's a beautiful "traditional with a modern
twist" kind of house in a traditional neighbourhood. There was a viewing
deck on the top floor that overlooked the whole city, and it was
absolutely gorgeous. Cheong Ik's wife made tons of delicious looking food
(which I couldn't have), and everyone ate and drank heartily. It was kind
of amusing, because Cheong Ik is very "lovey dovey", and everything is
all about happiness and peace and love and blah blah blah; which is
nice to a certain extent; but what was hilarious was seeing the Humber
guys trying to hold back their very large sarcastic streaks! Ha! Good
entertainment! Later on, Cheong Ik showed us a formal tea ceremony and
we had a jam session.

Wednesday:
Last day of the fast! Fortunately today, a lot of my classes were
cancelled so that the Humber guys could do master classes, so I had a
pretty light schedule today-- fine by me!

Thursday:
So now I'm breaking the fast! Breaking the fast has to be done
slowly-- one of only juice, the next day, vegetable soup, the next day
vegetables, so on. I couldn't resist and had some veggies today, but it made
my stomach hurt quite a bit (there are no acids left to break the food
down), so I'm going to have to take it slower!

Friday:
One of my best students auditioned for Humber College on Wednesday, and
he got in! Yes! I'm having quite the success rate so far with
students auditioning . . .
After work, I picked Jason up from the train station-- he will be
visiting for the weekend. I showed him around Haebangchon for a little bit,
got him dinner at Indigo, and then we actually had a few drinks! ( I
was feeling tispy after half a drink!) Later on, I took him to see St.
John the Gambler (Garan and Mark's band) play their last show at
Woodstock. Some bumps along the way though-- the sound board completely
gave out at Woodstock, and had to be quickly replaced and rewired, so the
gig ended up starting 2 hours late. After the gig, we all went over to
Orange Tree in Haebangchon, where we hung out til the wee hours of the
morning.

Saturday:
My first real meal this morning! I'm uncomfortably full, but doing
okay. After breakfast, Jason and I walked around Namsan Mountain, through
Myeongdong and City Hall area up to Insadong-- we covered a huge chunk
of the city in about 3 hours! We ended up at Nagwon Music Arcade,
where Jason purchased a high quality recording mic.
Later that night, I convinced Jason to take part in the beginner salsa
class (*smirk* now that was entertaining!) and after that, we headed
over to Rocky Mountain Tavern for a Little Traveller's benefit. Little
Travellers is an AIDS organization. Tonight's show featured the
Bellows (the band that Summer manages, playing their last show) and the EV
Boys, these 3 comedian/rapper foreigner guys who have become famous in
Korea on You Tube for their video called "Kickin' it in Geumchon". The
reason why they've become so popular is because their funny little
observations about Korea are dead on the money!
Unfortunately, we didn't last long at the benefit-- I don't know what
happened, probably because of the intense and claustrophobic heat in the
room, and because I had just danced for 4 hours, and walked around the
city for 3 hours before that, but I actually got really light headed
and faint, and we ended up having to leave immediately. Having Jason
around was a huge help-- he helped me get home quickly, safely and
efficiently!
