Week 10 (May 1st to May 7th)
Sunday May 1st, We had to leave Seoul today. I didn't want to leave! I didn't get a chance to meet up with any of my music friends, and we didn't get a chance to do any touring in Seoul itself. But Jason and Cindy had plans to go to the army base in Daegu for brunch later in the afternoon, so we had to catch a pretty early train. Of course, when we got back to Daegu, their friends on the army base cancelled, so we were all kind of pissed off, because we could have stayed in Seoul for the whole day (Estelle actually caught a later train because she really wanted to see the War Museum). So Jason, Cindy and I went downtown in Daegu instead and did some shopping. Mike had told us about a place that had really good burgers, so we hunted it down for dinner. Unfortunately for me, something in either my chicken club or the chili fries that we shared did not agree with me, and I spent the rest of the night throwing up. Because I also broke out in hives and had trouble breathing, I think that there must have been peanuts in something that I ate at that place, but i'm just happy that the reaction wasn't worse. All in all, it's been a really busy week, and I'm exhausted! I wish I could spend a couple of days just doing nothing, but it's back to the grind tomorrow.
Monday May 2nd, I'm exhausted! The weekend sure took a lot out of me. But tonight was Cindy and Estelle's last night here, so we all got together at Jason's apartment, and had some drinks. I'm definitly going to miss having them here. I haven't met a lot of girls that I can really talk to yet, so it was nice to have some female company. But I'm planning on keeping in touch with both of them, and I'm sure that I'll see both Cindy and Estelle when I go back to Canada.
Thursday May 5th, We had today off, because of Children's Day. Yesterday, we had a big special lunch at school with pizza and chicken wings and cake, and we basically let our kids run around for half the day. Kids are spoiled rotten here! They're always getting presents, new clothes, special games and toys. Parents just seem to obsess over their children nonstop. I don't remember ever being so privileged when I was a kid (My mom is probably reading this and saying Yeah, right, but seriously Mom, these kids get anything they want!) Anyway, we all had a holiday today because of Children's Day. I've been so tired all week that I really wanted a day to myself, so I took the bus downtown and had a marathon shopping sessionvery therapeutic. I came home with tons of new clothes and jewelry, and the best part is I didn't even spend very much money!
Friday May 6th, Tonight I brought my keyboard over to Mike's place and jammed with Jason and Mike (they both play guitar). There's an open mic night at a bar downtown called Commune, so in a week and a half, we're planning on going down and showing off our stuff. It was good to actually interact on some sort of musical level with other people. Someone I met a couple weeks ago told me about a jazz bar downtown. I haven't found it yet, but I'm really hoping that it's actually a good spot for music, and that maybe I can get a real gig, or find more people to jam with. I'm keeping my fingers crossed . . .
Saturday May 7th, I went downtown with Evan and Mike and met up with a bunch of people, some that I knew and some that I didn't. I finally got a full night of dancing in at a club called Bubble. Night clubs here seem really different than back home. Everyone is friendlier, and it seems like there are less boundaries up around people you don't know. I spent the whole night dancing with this cute Korean guy, but there was never any creepy pressure, like there would be at home. It was all just fun, and it was the same with everyone I knew there-- everyone's just out to have a good time, not "pick up". The music was kind of crappy, but I'd take this bar scene over the one in North America anyday
