Tuesday:
Tonight, after getting back from Iksan, I had to go
straight to a Grateful Dead rehearsal! Now, as a
favour to Drew, a friend of mine, I've agreed to sing
on this Grateful Dead tribute show that he's putting
together. It's kind of hilarious to think about me
singing the "repertoire" of the Grateful Dead, but
whatever, my job is easy. Unfortunately, the boys are
sounding less than prepared right now. Yes, some of
the music is a little difficult, but it's not that
hard! I was also pretty irritated at the inefficiency
of the rehearsal-- especially in situations where the
rehearsal space has to be payed for, and when people
are putting in their time for free, I hate wasting
time! And plenty of much needed time was wasted
tonight . . . I'm starting to regret agreeing to this
project.

Thursday:
My day off. I was planning on catching up on some
much needed sleep, but Garan called me at the crack of
dawn (ha, actually it was 10am, it just felt like the
crack of dawn!) to tell me that it was a beautiful
day and I had to get out of bed! He gave
approximately 15 minutes to get ready and meet him at
Indigo for brunch. He was right-- it is a beautiful
day! Sunny and warm! After brunch, we walked down to
Itaewon and hung out for most of the afternoon.

Friday:
My private student is really annoying! Su is an older
woman, who is a really high maintenance student.
Meaning, she calls a lot with questions, she's
frequently late, and expects me to give extra time,
and she basically usurps all of my energy. Gah. Is
it really worth the extra money? Sometimes I feel
like my students are vultures, looking to suck every
last bit of information and vitality out of me. They
have a tendency to not understand the boundary
between my time and their time. I've become much
tougher with lesson times and how much information I
dole out per lesson, because my time and information
are valuable, and should be treated as such. I also
started a new private student today. Pyeong Cheol was
set up with me through one of the guitar teachers. He
wants to learn how to sing worship songs . . . he's
terrible! Again, I'm asking myself, are these 2
privates really worth the extra cash? (By the way, I
got a 10% raise this year, so I now make 2.75 million
won a month-- an extra 250 bucks a month, therefore, I
really kind of don't need the extra cash from crappy
privates)
After teaching, I headed over to another inefficient
Grateful Dead practise. Except I was extra irritated,
because I've got a pretty bad head cold, and I feel
terrible, and I could definitely use the extra rest!

Saturday:
Ah. The head cold turned into a snot encrusted
coughing machine overnight. Looking forward to a gig
tonight!
I spent the afternoon practising in the apartment--
fortunately Bobby and Summer don't mind (in fact, they
actually enjoy it!), and the landlord/lady haven't
complained either. Finally, a home where I can
practise!
After salsa class, I had to run right over to the
Rocky Mountain Tavern (thus missing the studio's big
1st anniversary party, which I was quite sad about)
for the Grateful Dead gig. By the time I got there,
they had already started, so I settled in, and waited
for my tunes to come up. The whole gig went
surprisingly well-- very high energy, somewhat smooth
for the most part, and extremely well received.
Deadheads are hilarious! They're almost religious
about their Dead music, and they're scarily
enthusiastic, plus they dance around looking like
they're stoned out of their minds (ie the "white boy"
dance). It was pretty funny just to watch the huge
crowd at the bar, and I had a surprisingly fun time
singing this gig, despite my bad cough and stuffed up
nose. What I didn't appreciate was the number of
overly aggresive guys who hit on me after the gig--
I'm really tired of the ridiculous men in this
country-- of ALL nationalities. Grr.
