| In 1996,Congress approved a ban on partial-birth abortions except when necessary to save mother's life. President Clinton vetoed the bill. Although, the house voted to override the veto, hte override vote in the Senate failed to obtain the required two-thirds majority by nine votes. Thus, partial-birth (for any reason) remain legal in the United States. <http://www.mfc.org/resources/backgrounders/partialbirth.htm> One of the most controversial issues in today's society is abortion. Partial-birth abortion has been viewed as a much different, more brutal way of aborting a baby during the later months of pregnancy. One of the reasons partial-birth abortions are viewed to be so incredibly inhumane nad wrong is because of the procedure which is used to carry them out. Yet another reason why these types of abortions remain to exist is the view that the fetus does not actually become a baby until it is born. Many people do not see a problem with a baby being aborted in the second trimester because the baby itself may not be capable of survival on their own. Some people hold the belief a baby is not a baby until it is fully developed. However,I wonder what those same people would say if they were to witness a full term partial-birht abortion. Would they still agree with partial-birth abortions? Would they think just anyone should be able to receive one? Throughout this paper I hope to accomplish just one thing, and that is to educate individual on what partial-birth abortion is and how it is done. |
