I have conducted a research on the development potential of Security System in Japan. It is always assumed that Japanese don't pay attention to home security because of relatively low crime rate. From my research, it turned out that the above assumption is not necessarily true.
When my internewees were asked about how they feel towards crime rate in Japan, 83% believed that crime rate is higher than before. Half of them showed a bit of worries about home break-ins. Despite the worries, very few have installed any form of security products (extra lock, glass guard etc).
Statistic shows that national break-in rates in the last 4 years had been increasing, with a 15% increase in 1999-2000. A recent interview conducted by Nippon Keizai Newspaper reported that Security Services are getting popular in Japan where Security Systems are installed at home with a monthly monitoring service charge applicable. The increase in sales of one of the biggest company in the industry reported a 20% increase from last year (2000) in customer base.
