Aug 22-25, 2001 Our tour departed Tokyo on Aug 22, a day when we had the worst typhoon in the last couple years. Our flight departed at 11:30am and arrived Hokkaido Kushiro airport at 13:00. The whole day rained heavily and we couldn't see the famous Mashu Lake at all. Fortunately the next couple days the weather turned sunny and we could enjoy the various places we visited. The hotels and meals were also good with big hot spring baths and very delicious buffet. The bus tour was tough since we got only couple hours sleep everyday (we tried to walk around the towns/cities at night or early morning). However, it was a very intensive course we did - in less than 72 hours we traveled almost 1000km of Hokkaido.

The highlight of day 2 was at Furano Farm (photo at left). Although we have passed the peak of the flowering period (late July) in such colourful rows, there is a special flower field for the fall blossom where we could enjoy at late August. (The 2 photos above are images showing Biei at sunset. Pls click here to view more.)
The weather was perfect on Day 3. We finished breakfast before 7am to walk around the city of Sapporo. After a 30 minutes drive we arrvied Otaru, well-known with the Otaru canal. Glass product is famous there and we bought one for souvenior. The most splendid view we saw this day was at the Cape of Kamui (see left) located atthe tip of the Sekidan Pennisular. It was a very senery drive along the coast at the Pennisular with lots of huge strange rocks and capes.
