| Thomas Langford Hill. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Born: September 10, 1855 in Lenton, Nottinghamshire, England. Lived there until his departure for the U.S. Arrived in America in 1876. Unsure when he moved to Missouri area. Spent most, if not the rest, of his life there. Died: July 14 1935 in Greenfield Missouri. As you can see, the same day Laura died. Yes, it was suicide. Parents: Edwin Hill and Elizabeth Langford. Siblings: 7 Henry Charles Grey Hill May Elizabeth Annie Langford Ada S. (did not marry) Edwin Edward Clarendon Work: His father Edwin (and his father John) were both lace manufacturers, which was quite a thriving business in the Lenton district at the time. So if he had stayed in England, that's probably what he would've ended up doing. As it was, he came to America, and in the censuses, they have him down as a 'coachman'. I'm assuming this either means a private chauffeur, or a cabbie. His son Edward, in a later census, actually has 'chauffeur-private family' as his job description, so I'm assuming this would be for Thomas as well. Marriage: Laura Lee Cooley, about 1878, in Missouri. Children: See Laura Update: found Thomas on a ship, but it's much later than when he arrived originally. It's 1910ish, I can't remember exactly. Must have gone back to visit family. It's definitely him, he's listed as Thomas Langford Hill. Could've been when these pics were taken. |
Born: September 1862 in Missouri. Lived there her whole life. Died: July 14 1934 in St. Clair Co., Mo. She was 'sick' for a while before she died, lived with her sister who cared for her. Unsure what the sickness was. Speculating pneumonia. Parents: William C. Cooley and Frances Elizabeth Andrews. Siblings: 9 , 2 lived to an older age (Benjamin and Eliza Jane.) Benjamin Timothy Sarah, possibly initial E. John L. or L. John Sallie Eliza Jane Joseph F. or T. Also, there is a William Cooley and Elizabeth Fields who married and lived in the same area, I have to work twice as hard keeping the 2 families separate. Work: Wife and mother Marriage: Thomas L. Hill, at about 15 Children: Lillie May Hill Maud E.(Morgan) William Thomas Edward |
