Saturday, May 17 Sarah will be going into the hospital in Omaha on Monday. Her seizures aren't being fully controlled by her medications. She will be hospitalized for a week and will be hooked up to a live EEG machine the whole time. The EEG will record all her brain activity (or lack thereof - haha!) and will record any seizures. Hopefully, this information will help the doctors to treat her more effectively. I will post updates, including specific prayer requests, throughout her stay. We appreciate all the prayers we can get. This has the potential to be a very trying week. For now, please pray for her safety throughout this procedure. We're not sure if they are taking her off her medications or not at this point. Also, please pray against fear and pray for the babies not to stress out too much being separated from their mama for a week! I'm sure Zach would also appreciate your prayers as well, as he will be staying home working and being a single daddy. I will be heading out to the hospital on Tuesday after work and I will stay with Sarah until she is released on Friday. Then I will bring her home. Thanks for dropping in and thanks for the prayers and positive thoughts for our Sarah. Please leave us a message in the guest book - it will really brighten our day to hear from you! In God's grip, Karen
Wednesday, May 21 I'm here with Sarah. They have taken her off all her medications. They let her sleep last night, but tonight they are going to put her on "sleep depravation." No sleeping for us tonight. She hasn't had any seizures or auras, yet. But the technician who saw her this morning said they are seeing the abnormalities in the brainwave recordings. She is bored and a little discouraged that we aren't having more activity. The doctor said it will take up to 48 hours for the medication to leave her system and the lower her medication threshhold goes the more activity we will start to see. We are now 28 hours since her last medication dose, so I'll bet we see some things start to happen by the end of tonight. For all our praying friends out there - please keep praying!
Wednesday, May 21, 11:43 pm - SPECIFIC PRAYER REQUEST - - - Can't believe we are actually asking for this, but please pray that Sarah will have some seizures soon. We want the doctors to get the information they need and don't want to go through all this for nothing. The sooner she has her seizures the sooner we can start "putting her back together again" and let her feel good again. Thank you!!
Thursday, May 22 Still no seizures. The doctor came in today and said that is a good thing. Although she still has the abnormalities in her brainwaves that show she does, indeed, have epilepsy, she did not have any seizures despite all their efforts to induce one. So - what does this mean for Sarah? The doctor indicated that her panicky episodes, rapid heartbeat, and dizziness may not be auras at all, as we have believed them to be all this time. He stated that they could be side effects from one of her medications. So they are going to re-start her on her Dilantin tonight and see if that can control her all on its own. If not - if she begins to have true auras and seizures again - they will add another medication, but it won't be the Lamictil that she was on before. It will be something we haven't tried before. So - basically - we are back where we began 4 years ago - trying to find medications that will make her feel "normal." Not the definitive answer that we had so hoped to find during this procedure. Medication changes can be very challenging - seizures, auras, new side effects, dizziness, fatigue, just plain not feeling good are all possibilities (actually - probabilities). So the next couple weeks will still not be fun for her. But the good news is she gets to go home tomorrow morning. Thank you all for all your prayers during this week. We are very glad it's almost over!
We are home. Sarah's medication change is going okay - about what we expected. We won't be maintaining this page or checking the guestbook for right now. Please feel free to send us an email at the above address. We check that addy every day! Thanks so much for your prayers, support, and friendship!
