When
Helen becomes the young wing governor at Larkhall Prison she becomes interested
in the lifer Nikki Wade. There is an obvious respect for Nikki right from
the start when she tries to win her trust and perhaps some loyalty. However,
Nikki takes time to warm to the new governor but once she does there is
no turning back for Nikki Wade when she falls in love with Helen. At first
it looks like Helen pursues Nikki, then Nikki pursues Helen all culminating
in a kiss shared in Nikki's cell towards the end of series 1. Helen dumps
her finance Sean Parr and goes away to think. When she returns she at
first as some difficulty dealing with her obvious love for Nikki but eventually
she resigns and admits to Nikki that she feels more for her than friendship.
The couples relationship begins and Helen gets a new job within the prison
service working with lifers, this brings her closer to Nikki and they
finally find some time together.
