Nancy McCulloch's Sloppy Joe's
1 lb. Hamburger

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup chopped celery

1/4 cup chopped green pepper

1 tbsp. sugar

1 tsp. salt

dash pepper

1- 8oz can tomato sauce

1/4 cup catsup

1 tbsp. vinegar

1 1/2 tsp worchestershire sauce

Brown meat slowly, add onion, celery and green pepper. Cook until tender but not brown. Simmer 5 - 10 minutes or until thick.

This recipe is best made in advance. Refrigerate it and then heat it up when hungry. klr


You can use this recipe to preserve your newspaper clippings. I have tried this on clippings that were from a newspaper dated 1942. While it still looked yellow it was no longer brittle. It is good for another fifty years.

This mixture can be stored in your refrigerator in a plastic container and used over and over.

Throughly disolve 1 tablet or 2 TBS. of liquid milk of magnesia in a quart of club soda. Chill the mixture overnight. Soak your clippings in the solution for an hour then blot dry. Allow to air dry.


Fran Janick's Oatmeal Cookies
These are the best ever Oatmeal cookies, mmmmYUM

3/4 cup all-purpose flour�����1 egg

1/4 teaspoon salt---------�����3/4 cup quick-cooking rolled oats

1/2 teaspoon baking powder��3 tablespoon milk

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon-----�1/4 cup chopped nuts

1/4 teaspoon cloves------�����1/4 cup seedless raisins

1/3 cup shortening

1/2 cup sugar

Sift flour, measure, and resift 3 times with salt, baking powder and spices, cream shortening, blend in sugar, and add slightly beaten egg, beat until smooth and light. Stir in rolled oats. Add half the flour and stir in; then add milk, rest of flour, nuts and raisins, stirring until well mixed. Drop from a teaspoon onto a greased baking sheet, and bake in a moderately hot oven (400 F.) for 10 to 15 minutes, or until nicely browned. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen cookies.
