I know You're very busy, Lord,
But this won't take a minute,
This prayer is such a simple one,
But my whole heart is in it.
And seeing all Your kindness
To us humans every day,
There is a little animal,
For whom I'd like to pray.
He is my loyal, faithful friend
Whose love remains the same,
And sometimes, Lord (You know it's true).
He puts mankind to shame.
Please place Your hand upon him
When his joints begin to pain;
I know he's growing older,
And he can't be young again.
But help me keep him comfortable,
And let him know I care,
And let him feel how glad I am
That he is always near.
The joy that he has given me,
I never can repay;
His lessons of unselfishness
Have brightened up each day
He takes me just the way I am,
Nor longs for any more.
He doesn't mind if I am rich,
Or care if I am poor.
I know You're very busy, Lord,
And yet I know it's true,
Since You're the One Who made him,
That You love him like I do!
