Though I was not born here, I have lived
in Harlan County Ky for over 35 years; over
half of my life. My mother was born and raised
in the community of Coldiron, and that is the
part of the county, where the familys of my
mother's branches will be found, living and dead.
I hope what infromation and photo's I have
entered into these pages will help others in
their family history work.
The couple that you see to the right are my
maternal grandparents; Denver Clarence
Simpson and Louise Russell., the parents of my
mother. Denver was born in either Wallins Cr.
or Coldiron on April 21st, 1909, the son of
Robert Bob Simpson and Allie (Simpson). His
parents were 1st cousins, brother's children.
My grandmother Louise Russell was born
on August 13th, 1910 on Abe Hill at Coldiron Ky
She was the daughter of Leander Lee Preston
Russell (Ely) and Addie (Saylor). Louise's
parents were 2nd cousins. Their parents were
1st cousins, brother and sister's children.
The marriage's of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cousins
were not nothing unusal back in the 1800's. Even
on into the early 1900's you will find this also.
Denver died on September 15th, 1960 at
his home in Coldiron, and is buried in the
Coldiron Cemetery. Lousie passed away on
October 8th, 1989 at the H.A.R.H. and is buried
in the Russell Family Cemt. on Abe Hill of
Coldiron in Harlan Co. Ky.
Denver and Louise had 9 children 8 girls and
1 boy.
