Definition of Teaching

Definition of teaching:

Each individual asked will define teaching differently. Teaching is personal and therefore defining it will also be personal. Teaching to me is defined as facilitating learning through guiding individuals to experience the world around them to the best of their abilities. Teaching is opening the minds of your students and allowing students to envision the possibilities of the world around them. Teaching is taking the interests of a student and using those interests to assist them in experimenting with other subjects they have not yet explored. Teaching is helping and nudging students in the right direction with the intention of gaining understanding and interest in a given subject. Teaching to me is a lifelong commitment to assisting others in stretching and enriching their minds. Teaching can focus on very simplistic concepts or deal with the obscure and abstract. Teaching is guiding and sometimes pushing students to try new things and experience new topics in an attempt to gain knowledge that will be helpful to them later in life. Teaching is an attempt at facilitating learning, but learning cannot be forced. Teaching is done with the intent of helping each student become the most knowledgeable person they can be. Some teachers teach by guiding while other teachers focus on leading. The form, in which teaching takes place, is dependent upon both the teacher and the student. What works for one teacher or one student may not work for others. Teaching is guiding, pushing, pulling, and even dragging students to the knowledge they need. Teaching is a constantly changing experiment in progress that must be experienced by both teacher and student at the same time to be successful.
