Read through the Induction Service on pg. 35-37 together.
- Read pg 35 together.
- Read & discuss scripture - Luke 9:1-2,7; 10:1-2,8-9.
- Why do you think this scripture was included here?
We as christians are instructed to heal the sick.
- What does "The Kingdom of God" have to do with the healing ministry?
The healing ministry is more about sharing Jesus or the Kingdom of God than physical healing.
Healing goes with the message of Jesus. It is evidence that Jesus is alive today and can heal the same today just as he healed in the bible.
- Why do you think Jesus had a group of people do this ministry? Why did they go out two by two?
Groups are more effective working together than one individual alone.
Individuals can draw strength and guidance from a group to do God's work.
- Read & discuss scripture - James 5:14-16
- Why do you think this scripture was included here?
This is what a healing ministry is all about.
- What does forgiveness and confession of sins have to do with the healing ministry?
Forgiving or asking for forgiveness are very healing acts in themselves.
The bible tells us to do this when we pray.
Mark 11:24-25
24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
- Read & discuss scripture - John 20:21-23
- Why do you think this scripture was included here?
You need the Holy Spirit if you are going to do any kind of healing ministry.
- What does the "Breath of God" have to do with the healing ministry?
The "Breath of God" is associated with receiving the Holy Spirit.
Asking to be filled or to receive the Holy Spirit is a necessary part of a healing ministry. It's also part of seeking God's will.
The Order of St. Luke is really about seeking God's will and doing what God wants.
This sounds alot like the Prayer of Jabez.
- Look at pg. 9 - Read "Breath of God" together.
Notice how "Breathe on me, Breath of God" precedes every verse.
You also need the Holy Spirit to do each of the things mentioned in the verses. You can't accomplish them on your own!
- Read Order of St. Luke Rules together.
- Why do you think these rules are included?
These rules are needed to "walk" closely with the Lord. You need to be
walking closely with the Lord to have an effective healing ministry or to share Jesus.
