Grieving the Holy Spirit
Eph 4:17-32, Col 3:1-15

  1. What is the best piece of clothing you have had for years and can't seem to discard? Why is it so hard to discard?

  2. How does Paul describe the "old self"? The "new self"?

  3. How do you go about putting off your "old self" and putting on your "new self"?

  4. Read Col 3:1-15. How are we to grow spiritually (v 1-4)? How does this contrast with things that don't lead to growth (v 5-10)?

  5. How much contrast is there between earthly clothes (v 5-11) & God's clothes (v 12-17)?

  6. We all get used to "earthly nature" or old self clothing. Which aspect feels like a comfortable T shirt? Why is it so hard to remove?

  7. What does all this putting off and putting on have to do with grieving the Holy Spirit?

  8. Of the 9 things in the article (forgetting God, grumbling, disobedience, disbelief(lack of trust), pride, self-effort, resistance to the Spirit, hypocrisy & legalism) which is hardest for you to put off?

  9. What piece of Christ's wardrobe would you most like to replace it? ((v 12)compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness & patience)
