HOPE IN A HOPELESS WORLD

Read all of today's passages aloud and listen for reasons you can find hope no matter what.

Matthew 28:16-20 (New Living Translation) Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him--but some of them still doubted!

Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Hebrews 13:5-6 (New Living Translation)
Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never forsake you."
That is why we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"

1 Peter 3:15 (New Living Translation)
Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.

2 Peter 3:3-4, 8-9 (New Living Translation)
First, I want to remind you that in the last days there will be scoffers who will laugh at the truth and do every evil thing they desire. This will be their argument: "Jesus promised to come back, did he? Then where is he? Why, as far back as anyone can remember, everything has remained exactly the same since the world was first created."

But you must not forget, dear friends, that a day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise to return, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so he is giving more time for everyone to repent.

THINK!

  1. According to Peter, one of Jesus' disciples, what is going to happen at the "end of the age"?

  2. With the reality of spiritual judgement in the future, how does Christ provide hope to those who are His genuine disciples? Do you have this hope? Why or why not?

  3. Whether you die in a "normal" way, or live till Christ returns to take His followers home to Heaven, what aspect of being "on His Mission" is in your daily focus right now? Does your daily purpose for living need to be refocused with Christ's vision for you? If so, how?

  4. How did you first learn of the "hope" that only Christ can give? How have you passed it on to others?

**********************************************************************

PRAY!

Give thanks for the "hope" that only Christ can give.

Ask Jesus to keep reminding you that through Him, all things are possible!

Since Jesus is with you always, take a few minutes to get quiet before Him and just listen to His Spirit . . .
