| We spent 2 nights in Rothenburg just a few minutes walk from the walled part of the city. This town has been amazingly preserved through the ages and has a fairy tale feel. We enjoyed an hour walking tour with the Night Watchman on our first evening and spent much of the next day walking the wall. The town boasts Schneeballen i.e. "Snowballs" in most of the bakeries as a traditional local treat. We tried two mini versions and were less than impressed as it reminded us of sugared, wadded up pie dough. So we stuck to ice cream for treats ;-). We did however really enjoy the views and the ambiance of the town and we had wonderful accomodations as well. There are several year round Christmas shops (Kathe Wohlfahrt) in town as well and they were a destination of their own! It is no doubt a very touristy place, but very nice in the evenings when the tour busses leave. |
