One of the days we were in Hungary, we took a bus tour of three Danube River sights north of Budapest: Esztergom Basilica, Visegrad Castle and the town of Szentendre.
Esztergom Basilica, largest church in Hungary
Esztergom and the Danube from the Basilica
The Visegrad Castle was built in the 1300s. It was sacked by the Mongols and later the Habsburgs. All trace of the castle was lost until archaeologists found it in 1934. Apparently portions were rebuilt since then. Top left is the view of the Danube from the castle. Top right is how the castle appears from the plain below it, where remains from another royal residence from the 1300s stand. To the left is a shot taken from just outside the castle wall. To the right is the gate that leads to the castle.
Szentendre
Szentendre is a quaint artists village not far from Budapest. We happened to be there on Orthodox Easter. Greek and Serbian Orthodox folk musicians and dancers paraded to the main square and provided a concert and dancing.
