Our townhouse is in a quiet neighborhood that is walking distance to the school. The house is not too exciting from the outside but overlooks open parkland (which is mostly a dog park- so we have to watch our step!). The house has 4 levels of living space with the family room on the ground floor and the master bedroom on the top in an attic conversion and two kitchens. The staircase is a fairly tight spiral and there are 43 steps top to bottom. There is a guest room ready for visitors.

Our family room walks out to the garden. There's no grass to mow, but there is plenty of weeding to do. We also have a small balcony off the main kitchen that overlooks the garden as well. The kids have space to do sidewalk chalk and jump rope. Parks with playgrounds are close by.

If you come to visit, you are sure to remember our carpet! It will keep you awake as you climb the stairs. Houses here have BIG windows. That lets the maximum light in during the many cloudy days and the dark winters. It is also good for watching what's happening in the neighborhood. There is even a neighborhood window washer that comes every month to clean the outsides. However, we still have to do the insides :-(

There are many traffic circles here. They are a great alternative to 4-way stops! The red motorbike here is a postal carrier. It is often easier to bike than drive places. Karen can go to the grocery and home for a hand basket of items in about thirty minutes. Parking is the toughest thing as spaces are tight and most often of the straight-in variety. It usually takes several adjustments to fit the van.

The "cheese man" comes around every Saturday with butter, eggs, and cheese. You can sample the different varieties- we like the "jonge kaas" to eat, "belegen" to cook with and cheese with cumin seeds for mexican dishes. The goat cheese is yummy too!
