During October break we took a day trip out to Apenhuel, a fantastic primate park near Apeldoorn, with Karen's parents. It was a cool day and a bit misty at times. However, it was really great to have such a close up experience with the smaller animals like this squirrel monkey!

There were lots of free roaming lemurs! The "Zaboo" type ring-tailed lemurs stayed above our heads while the red-ruffed lemurs were a bit more tame. There were also large habitats for Gorillas, Bonobos, and Oragutans to view as well. If you'd like to learn more about primates, or this park, visit their website (click on the British flag for English!)
At the park we found educational movies, interactive water exhibits, seals, and a hurricane wind tunnel - plus time just for fun!

In the southernmost province of Zeeland, there is a park dedicated to water, the Delta Works project, and how The Netherlands relates to its friend and foe, the North Sea. We visited here on our way to Belgium via the scenic route!
These modern windmills power the pumps to control the water levels. There are also moveable pieces to this dam which are used only in the event of a storm surge.
