Odyssey of the Mind Competition

The opening ceremonies took place Friday evening at the Sony Center in Berlin.  The evening included all the teams in a mass parade with a drum and bugle corps; performances of the German and American national anthems, and entertainment by dancers, a marianette team, and a funny skit to introduce the OM judges.
The American School of the Hague arrived with 7 different teams of 5-7 students each in the elementary and middle school divisions. There were 35 teams total scheduled to compete.

Rachel and her team competed on problem #5, Laugh-a-thon.  They did indeed have a lot of laughs together!
Rachel's team nears the end of their 8 minute skit with a military scene in which Rachel plays the general.  The boy in the tu-tu provides the punchline by miming to another soldier that his uniform is out of order because he thought it was world war 2-2.
The team awaits the final results for their division and problem.  The long-term problem score is combined with style points (it's confusing - sorry) and a score from a spontaneous problem that they completed earlier in the day which involved lauching an egg in a team designed container.  They came in 2nd!
