Shionoe Onsen in Kagawa-ken (Shikoku). This lovely onsen town wasn't in any of my guidebooks. It is about an hour south of Takamatsu by bus. Although this town has great natural hot spring water, and is surrounded by beauty (mountains, rivers, etc), there were not many tourists. The locals were friendly, and this is the town that I almost hitchhiked out of...without even trying!
