A garden in Nikko, a national park about one hour north of Tokyo. Many travelers come to Nikko for its beauty (it is in the mountains) and to see its world famous shrines and temples. While I was in Nikko, I tried to avoid the heavily touristed areas. My experience was that within walking distence of a famous temple or shrine, you could find a less visited temple or shrine which was just as beautiful. Read my Nikko entry.
