The Hikari Shinkansen (and me). The Hikari is one of three trains on the Tokkaido/Sanyo Shinkansen route (Tokyo to Hakata). It is the fastest train that JR pass holders can use, and the fastest train that people can take without paying a surcharge. It makes fewer stops than the Kodama Shinkansen (which stops at every station), but is a little bit slower than the Nozomi Shinkansen (the super superexpress).
